there’s a lot of people in this thread who are woefully ignorant about breastfeeding, feeding infants, and formula.

What did people do before there was commercially prepared baby formula? May not be an option for all parents like Mayor Pete and his husband.

for some perspective. a 12 oz can of that dried formula makes ~90oz of fluid formula.

Depending on the age of the infant they could take down anywhere from 10-30oz a day. Let’s say our imaginary baby is taking down just 15oz a day. That can is gone in less than a week if we don’t waste a f’ing ounce (not reality or even close to it).

So you’re spending that $200 once a month and that’s being conservative with how many oz per day. My oldest averaged 35+oz for a few months.

point being: Shiiit is expensive and we shouldn’t minimize parent’s struggle to acquire or afford formula.

Read a history book.

People with means used wet nurses. People without used goat milk as it is closest to human milk. Or the babies would die.

I also love the amount of men in this thread who clearly have not had a child speaking up on the ins and outs of feeding infants.

We had already ur first child Feb of 2020.

I stressed like crazy about formula shortage. Bought what I can but knew it would like a couple months max. Legit had goat lined up if necessary. Studied all the alternatives since wife wasn’t producing enough to keep up.

Second baby and we haven’t had issue getting Costco brand delivered. However, it is hard to find in stores for what we need for sensitive stomach

That’s the thing! Right now we supplement what I made (quit pumping in September and still have some bags frozen) but it has to be a certain kind or the baby spits up and gets an upset stomach. I’ve been ordering from Sam’s and Costco but recently it has been showing sold out so I am always keeping my eyes open for a lone bottle or two at when I go grocery shopping.
