caught a bunch of mahi mahi in Ket West this past Monday, ended up with ten gallon freezer bags of filets, we took a lot of it back to the house but took a bag with us to a restaurant and they blackened half of it and fried the other half for us, best eating I've had in a while

If you're still in Key West get a piece of key lime pie from Blue Heaven. You will not be disappointed. Of course to stay on topic they may use imported limes.

I remember Hymel’s switched to “fried fish” a few years before they closed

I only visited that place a few times. Probably around 2017-18. We were sitting at the bar eating lunch at the guy who I assumed was the owner was bragging about selling the fake catfish. Said his customers couldn't tell the difference.

Never went back.

One of the places that pisses me with selling the fake crap is Acme Oysters House. You shouldn't be marketing yourself as a Nola/La restaurant if you are going to pull this crap.

1. Catfish. What they're serving is this Basa. Chinese cheap meat. Some people like the taste but you can taste the difference. Even in how it tears. Others will just label it "Fish" then when you ask, it's "Catfish

Isn’t Basa a species of catfish? Is bless they are selling that and calling it Louisiana Catfish, are they really being dishonest??

I find an overall issue with a lot of restaurants since covid is that the quality has gone down. Lots of places we have been too in the past year plus we have decided we won't go back to. These weren't necessarily fine dining establishments to begin with, but now they're just garbage. You used to be able to get an okay breakfast at IHOP, or an okay lunch/dinner at olive garden. There are plenty more local places in the lafayette area that are the same way, all crap now.

I'm seeing a lot of that where we're at, I get that Covid kicked them in the nuts but enough already, a lot of places have scaled back the menu, reduced potions, raised prices(I can understand that,) but they blame everything on Covid, give it a rest already, it's like our company after 9/11

So, name the restaurants
ZEA. They used to use Gulf shrimp. Now, in almost microscopic writing the menu it says they use shrimp from Central America that are "sustainably produced" or something bullshite like that.

You know what's sustainable? Gulf of Mexico shrimp if motherfrickers like Zea wouldn't buy imported sewer shrimp.

Mid level restaurants, I agree.

High and low end...not so much.

High end restaurants charge enough to cover for the price increases they encounter. Plus, if they add a couple of bucks to the price...does it really matter.

Cheap (fast food?) places have always served shite. If it is a couple of bucks more, it is still the cheapest meal around.

This is true, but the bulk of sit down restaurants fall in the middle range. It's to the point we either plan to go to something on the higher end, or just cook at home. If we're on the road and starving, we'll just get some whoppers because anything else would be a waste of time and money.

If it’s spelled incorrectly, or funny, on the menu…that’s for a reason. Krazy KrabKakes isn’t crab. Just a helpful hint
