That's what we usually do. Of course, around here we usually know them and if their story is legit. If you want to and are willing to work, I'll pay you a decent amount to do something. First time they come around asking for money and no work...they gone. One of them impressed us so much, he just got hired by one of my friend's construction company for $25-35/hour with benefits/ins. Has been a good screener for him as well. He'll hire some that come by asking for work to do some bullshite clean up job or something. The few that show work ethic and are dependable get hired on. We can train people to do specific jobs. Can't teach people work ethic or dependability.

I used to have the same problem until I put this up.

I'm damn happy for cheap gas. I'll be even happier if it becomes cheaper.

Son was maybe 12? While I wouldn't bring my kid with me if that was my plan, there are lots of reasons he could have been with him.
A kid that age was scoping out my neighborhood last week. Neighbor caught him trying to get in his back yard and the kid ran off and jumped in a car with what looked to be his dad down the street.

When I lived in BR, I had a guy with no legs ride up on a zero turn and ask to get a contract to cut my grass. Drove up to my steps and lifted himself up the first two steps until my dog saw him (quickly got back on the mower). He said his nephew did all of the legwork. I would've definitely hired him if I didn't like cutting the grass at that house.
The old man across the street had just had a heart attack, so I talked to him, and the guy with no legs started cutting his grass from then on
Had a few other guys knocking on doors when I lived there. Some were in pretty bad shape and scared the stay at home moms and old ladies. I got into it with this fat arse one time when I told him to GTFO of the hood. Posted on TD, and thankfully some BRPD cops read (and post), because they had a couple of units there within 5 minutes without anyone calling. My cover was blown when they rolled up and asked "So you're hammertime?"

I pray every night gas jumps back up to 3.50 a gallon

Interesting. That doesn't seem like a good idea on his part.

Just move to California or Mexico, problem solved.
*I'd be fine with a happy medium if it kept a few more people employed. O&G was obviously way overstaffed. They should've cut starting salaries and cut employees, but this has been and continues to be very bad

It will before you know it. Country's are falling into recessions and crumbling by the day. The relentless production will come to a halt raising prices or someone's shite is getting blown up.

Damn right I love cheap gas. I feel for people in the industry but they should know that if that's the field they choose to work in. Money in my pocket is a great thing.

Yep. We had a guy who was out of work, or at least told us he was, and hired him to trim trees in our yard. It needed done anyway, and he had a truck and hauled it away. Was worth it to me.

It's not just the O&G industry directly that's hurting. This affects a lot of industries

This. A lot of collateral damage. Everything is tied to the price at the pump.

Damn, I wish he was in my neck of the woods. I need to hire a good diesel mechanic. Crane mechanic could probably figure it out.

Mechanics are in high demand. He should be able to get rehired in a week

At the steel foundary I worked at, our mechanics would work on our overhead cranes, but they started at like 18 and some change. The ones with the highest test scores made 20.00(if they scored 90% or higher on the test) and the maintenance team leader made 21.76. Then again this was in Mississippi but our plant paid the highest wages in the area.
