Had 4 missed calls from 1(206) 317-8278 this morning. Called them back and was told it was the scocial security office. I refused to give them my SSN and they got pissy saying that I would not receive any government benefits. For anyone bored and looking a way to pass the time give them a shout

ETA: I asked where they were located and was told Woodlawn, MD. When I asked why they called from a Washington state number they hung up

I wasn’t questioning whether it was a scam

I had one call me a few weeks ago, with a recording of a woman with a Chinese accent:

"We have report of you criminal activity. You must call number to correct situation. If not call, arrest warrant from IRS and FBI come for you"

They not "come for me" yet.

What worries me are my parents - now over 65 - who get this stuff several times a day on a daily basis. The scammers robo dial thousands of numbers each day. It only has to work a handful of times for it to be profitable.

Frick these scammers so hard. Karma cannot get them enough.

The first description under your link says the scammers claim there's been fraudulent activity using your SS#. If that's the case, they should already have your SS#. Why do they need me to give them a number?

Windows scammers have pulled a similar bit.

They asked my name so I gave them a fake name. They told me there were 4 people with the same name and they needed my SSN so they could look up my file.

The scary thing is I could hear tons of people talking in the background—it sounded like a Jerry Lewis telethon with all the calls that were going on. I called our state attorney general’s office and passed the phone number along to them. Anyone with any sort of gullibility could easily fall prey

The phone numbers are randomly generated spoof numbers using VOIP. This is why they can’t stop these guys. They literally don’t know where in the world they are to go after them.

Awhile back... It was actually on a Saturday or Sunday.. I just remember the phone ringing exactly 30 mins apart. And I finally got tired of it so I answered. I got a voice recording saying "we have identified a security breach in windows on your computer. Please stay on the line and someone will be with you to help you get this issue resolved" (I am paraphrasing)..

I wait for a few seconds and a woman comes on the line and she tells me the same thing. That my computer is at risk and they can help me protect windows, blah blah.. I asked her a few questions as if I was buying into it. Then I said "they is fricking amazing considering I use IOS stop calling my house and remove my number of your list"...

My story was similar except the other way around. Some guy claimed my iCloud was hacked (he pronounced it "hack-ed"). That's funny, I don't use Apple.
