Well as a real south Louisiana creole Cajun and comparing my family to hmm... let’s say a bag of skittles because of the diversity, I remain neutral haha.

Took it from his conclusion, yeah.

I actually have used similar reasoning to his middle paragraph to explain why the term "African American" isn't some grand exclusionary platitude.

But his premise and conclusion are absurd. Nothing wrong with white pride or black.
My sentiments exactly. I did some digging and found out that he has a black/biracial son. I understand what he's trying to say. No one should be shamed for something they had no choice like race. White is white whether you came from Ireland or Scotland, still the same. I always hated it when chicks would say, "I'm a mut. I'm Irish, French and German." I'd be like, "Bitch, that's all white." And black people do the same shite. "I'm mixed. I'm Bahamian and American." That's just black, fool Either way, you shouldn't shame anyone from being a proud person. Being prideful on the sole basis of race as if it is an accomplishment is stupid though.

I have a shirt that says "Its OK to be white." Cant wait for the day some white guilt ridden clown tries to question it.

Are they still having these petty arguments in say...Brazil? Brazil imported around 5 million slaves compared to around 400,000 for America.

Do Brazilian descendents of slaves call themselves African-Brazilian? Do they say Black Pride? Is this a uniquely American experience?

Brazil is more classism than racism.

One brother can say they're white, another brown, and another black and all 3 have the same parents.

My three favorite aspects of TD:

1. People who live in BR or New Orleans calling places like California or Seattle a shithole because they don’t wear PFG or Sperry’s out there.
2. Giving ridiculous excuses about why they were watching ESPN to complain about some dumb opinion from a talking head. “I was forced to watch three straight hours or Sportscenter at 6 in the doctors office today!”
3. Finding a random social media post or blog from some irrelevant person with <20 followers and getting incredibly worked up that they have a terrible opinion. By the way, this opinion is 100% held by the majority of Americans these days.

My first thought was of the Martin Mull faux documentary called "The History of White People in America" from 1985. There was a scene with one of the white white kids being filmed in school as students were being called up to talk about their heritage.

One kid would get up and talk about being from some exotic place, and then another, then another and all of them were so exciting and different. then the white kid gets up and says something to the effect of, "Well...I'm form Maple Street. We used to live over on Cedar Grove, and then to Parson Lane...but now we live here."

Exactly.

Never heard it put quite like that but I agree 100% People get all silly with it. Even with my own heritage there's more than just black there, but black is what shows up most obviously so I just roll with that. My identity's not tied so closely to my ethnicity and honestly no one really wants to listen to me explore random branches of my family tree when they ask what ethnicity I am. No one gives a frick, get over yourself

Yeah it's a little weird. I get not being ashamed of where you come from, sure, but some folks (not just black people either) are SUPER into telling everyone how proud they are of being this, that, or the other thing.

I'm like, "....k."

"proud they can be Irish".... oh this is so lol hypocritical.

I don’t get it. Why not?

Also, to the main point, to uplift one’s self is not to denegrate another. Self pride is not inherently shitting on others. To suggest so in this context is to put others’ past evils on those today like anyone now is a time traveler. Suggesting as much puts others down.

being proud to be any race is stupid. it's not an accomplishment. be proud of a promotion. be proud of a scholarship. be proud of achievements. being born isn't an achievement. get over yourself.

But I have to admit, I find it pretty funny when someone is proud of being a member of a marginalized group. "I'm so proud my ancestors were rounded up like cattle and sent to Oklahoma!" Or "I'm proud my ancestors got kicked out of Canada!"

I’m a descendant of conquers

All racial pride is dumb. Be proud of something you actually achieved and stop appropriating shite that would have happened whether or not you were ever born.

Stop saying “we did.......” None of the great men and women if history needed your help to accomplish what they did. First do something great, then take pride in that.
