I have been slacking off of Facebook a lot lately. Between the Political posts and offers to get in on this tremendous business opportunity from people I haven't seen in twenty years is getting old...

I keep in touch with one of my daughters, my mom and siblings and a couple of groups (history, photography)

I ignore 90% of the stuff that runs through my timeline.

I love when people blame social media for their parenting deficiencies

If you make a bad post and people shite on you for it, you're a pussy if it hurts your feelings and don't stand up for yourself. Those same people would be pussies IRL without social media. I see no difference other than the magnitude of their punishments

I grew up calling girl's houses, then fricking around on AOL IM, right when teenagers started getting cell phones, and have seen it all develop. If you're a bitch, you're a bitch. No way around it

i wouldnt say social media but something like youtube where i read the average user spends like 45 minutes a day. My god 45 minutes a day watching meaningless clips. That should be time spent reading things to better yourself not watching vids of the harlem shake or some other nonsense

If you cut it down to minutes per day, I could probably fit in that category. I go on 4 hour benders on account of the ADD

I'm not talking about what you post. Im talking about what others post of you, pics etc. Everyone does stupid shite and is at the wrong place at the wrong time at some point. But now social media can wreck your future with 1 little post by someone else.

The generation before blamed MTV.

The generation before that blamed weed and sex.

The generation before that blamed rock and roll.

You obliviously don't see the difference between change and destroy.

I don't know why people refuse to accept change as they get older.

I think social media is allowing for mass communication that is unfiltered (most of the time) from "the man" You do have to filter all of the crap though.

I had this discussion with a friend 18 years ago. He thought social media would never replace IRL socializing because people need to be around other people. I thought otherwise. I do think people have become more introverted over the years.

Your confused. Social media's negatives are symptoms, not problems. People suck. Theyve always sucked. I actually think we have a chance of sucking less as a population due to the spotlight social media can shine on things.

Stop being purposefully obtuse. I'm not confused at at all. 30 years ago if a radical Islamist or pedophile wanted to meet up and share they're views it would be quite difficult. Today it's a click or two away. Then, people feel safe behind a keyboard so they express those views even more fiercely than they would in person.

has it though?

restaurants and bars are still packed all over this country every night with people socializing, sure they may be posting pics of their food/drinks to social media, but they are also socializing while doing it

People are definitely more narcissistic now. 99% of what people put on social media is to see what other people think about them

You do make a valid point, but you cant be naive to the fact that many people dont even enjoy vacation, food, or the real experience of what they are doing because they are too busy making sure their many selfies are just right so they can post it somewhere.

Sure it has. Connectivity is a click away. Privacy is much more difficult.

There are positives and negatives with it, no doubt but it definitely has changed the way many people socialize.

Well, to be fair I dont know that they arent. But there is no way you are truly taking in the experience when all you are doing is seeing it through the camera on your phone.

They enjoy showing other people what they are doing/wearing/eating just as much.

I know a bunch of people who DGAF about letting other people know about everything they've got going on. Hell, my phone is dead half of the time and I have only taken a camera to one vacation that I can remember
