If you read the actual case, that guy was going to die regardless. He ran across a 5 lane highway in full use.
Thanks for the explanation. That is fair.

Matthew Broderick's car moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

why is Matthew Broderick not in jail?
Judge saw Broderick was dating Jennifer Grey instead of Sloan Peterson and figured he had suffered enough.

Definitely white privilege.
Born white automatically = white privilege
Born white automatically = white privilege

Everything I have read about this said Broderick was drunk.

Better question... why wasn’t he in school?
Ohh yeahhhh... chicka-chikaw!!

Was he drunk or otherwise intoxicated?
If not, while a horrible tragedy, it isn’t a crime.
There are fatal car accidents every day that are just that, accidents.
Not all fatal accidents result in jail time or even charges.

Broderick, 25 at the time, was driving along a straight road in his rented BMW with Grey when he veered into the wrong lane, striking an on oncoming car. To this day, no one is quite sure how or why Broderick ended up in the wrong lane.
He was not drinking or under the influence of any substances, and many speculate he mistakenly drifted to the wrong side of the road (the right) as he would have if he had been driving in the US.

Dude, you're an effing idiot. This occurred in Northern Ireland. The people he hit in the "accident" were prolly whiter than he was. Take this race-baiting BS elsewhere.
The rest of your post is okay and makes good sense, but the bullshite you mentioned regarding "white privilege" makes me worry about your cognitive abilities.

I've never understood this attitude. There are other transgressions in life other than being intoxicated.

All I’m saying, without knowing details of this particular case, is that a terrible accident doesn’t necessarily equal a crime.
I don’t understand your thought that it always does.

Was he sober? How often does someone go to prison in that instance if they’re sober?
It’s slightly safer now. Slightly. Cars are infinitely safer too.
In 1987 in Ireland it was a prerequisite to drive drunk.
A weakness for a bit of the dram is the National Creed.

Never said "always," but there are other possibilities beyond just "drunk" and "unfortunate accident." Sometimes people are reckless. People can be tired, or sick, or just crappy drivers, and decide to drive anyway. They are encouraged in this decision by the fact that we don't have MADD or something like a breathalyzer for those things. But it doesn't make those actions ethical, and the answer to these problems isn't to pretend that being intoxicated is the only clear way to commit manslaughter with a car.
