Good grief, dude. Get a grip. There’s a wide gulf between marching for trans people and at least treating them like human beings.
Explain it to your kids however you need to. But all you’ve done is taught them a valuable lesson in never venturing out of your comfort zone, so congrats.
Unless the waiter was being obnoxious or failing in some other respect, you cowed for not at least putting up with the mild inconvenience of a short term transactional relationship with them.
Whatever leads to someone living in that way- they probably haven’t had the easiest time. So why pile on? I’m not telling you what you should hold as a societal debate position. Just a nickels worth of scorning for not being able to treat an individual with a little bit of no-cost compassion.
