From a reporter-friend's post. I'm sure a full article is coming later.

quote:

The low pressure system is because of the large number of leaks and breaks and faucets that are open. Heise and Mayor Nic Hunter are asking residents to turn off their faucets and call in any leaks so that water pressure can return to normal.

"It's really going to take the public hearing this urgent message and the urgent call to please conserve water. Turn off the faucets," Hunter said. "Until people heed that call, we're going to be in this situation."

Hunter said mayors across the state and in Texas are experiencing similar water problems, with more than 100 systems statewide under a boil advisory. Some systems have completely shut off their water, he said.

"It’s not a fun club to be in, but we are not alone," he said.

Hunter said local hospitals have told him they are getting to a "critical level" in terms of water availability.

Hunter said issues with water began after a citywide blackout Tuesday with no advance warning from Entergy that required water plants to switch over to generator power. During that time is when all the city's water reserves were depleted, he said.

JBE and our state administrators/regulators may have some explaining to do.

Does anyone think that SWB or Cantrell wouldn't be given a warning about losing their power grid?

Why so much of a lag for generators to kick in?

Didn't JBE release a statement last night that blockouts were coming?

I don't think that they're automatic and the issue was the time between the power shut off and generators coming on line. If we had been warned, I'm sure that a lot of the prep could have been done so the time lag wouldn't have been nearly as bad. I don't believe that you just turn on generators of this size. All the water drained out of the system in that time lag, and they can't rebuild pressure b/c everyone still has their faucets open (like I said earlier, it's a Tragedy of the Commons situation in real time).

Yes, but that's not an actual warning so that a major metropolitan area of the state can plan. There is possibly an excuse to keep the population in the dark, but there is no excuse for the city admins to be in the dark.

These people man. This city. Always with some BS about something. Now they can’t pressurize their water system.

I’m glad to know the City of Lake Charles is in the same situation as small towns such as Zwolle.

Mayor Roach would never have allowed this on his watch.

The Genny Union requires 24 hours notice before it can be activated. This way the can explain ahead of time that only 50% are actually capable of running, the remaining are still waiting on parts being shipped in from China.

If they had no warning, this is not their fault at all.

Figured that was the case, but at the same time he could have been better prepared with personal there to make sure generators worked.

But I get it for sure.

Looking at social media replies NOLA residents want to file a FOIA on Entergy and start a class action suit because they deemed the power cuts racist due to the areas cut.

Someone quipped that Entergy should have cut the power during the day when temperatures weren't so cold. SMH.

Nola had planned power shut offs last night and failed to notify anyone before hand. My power was shut off at 7:30. No warning given. Cantrelle may have been given the heads up but they sure as shite did not notify residents.

Yeah they are going to have problems with that. I don't live in the East, 9th, or another predominately AA neighborhood and they still shut ours off.

Well then we are screwed because these folks will not willfully listen to anything.
