Help around the house as much as you can, pick up easy to fix meals, run errands

Buy lemon drops & the soft peppermints, they are supposed to help with nausea

Just spend time with her & be there

Good luck to your mom

It's going to be tough, but really try to cherish every moment you have with her while keeping her spirits up. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 13. I was in pre-teen denial about the whole thing so I didn't spend the time I should have with her.

Also, don't underestimate the power of prayer and positive thinking for yourself as well as for your mother. If you're in the right positive state of mind when you're with her it will help her through the tough times.

i'd get her to MD Anderson. I don't trust louisiana doctors any further than i can throw them. They told me dad he had a b-12 deficiency. 4 monht slater, they said "we missed it. you have leukemia." got him to MD on monday and he died on friday.

I wouldn't frick around in Louisiana, that's for sure.

Mom is 58 years old. We took her to Baylor's pancreatic cancer center for a 2and opinion, and they confirmed same treatment plan; chemo, then chemo/radiation, then if all goes well, whipple surgery. We may use the surgeon in houston when we reach that point. Thank you all for the kind words and advice, much appreciated.

IIRC, you are in the medical field?

As you may know, the advances in targeted oncology have been tremendous over the last 24-36 months.

As far as the OP, there have bern significant increases in survival rates in pancreatic cancer as well.

As she sees things on Google that may upset her, remind her that these are for past trials. New, significant progress is being made daily.

If you wish to chat privately, feel free to post your email.

Not sure if you are local to Louisiana...

I'm sorry about your mom. But she could rebound after the treatment.

Yeah I'm an OT. Thankfully, mine is a highly treatable kind (embryonal carcinoma) and it doesn't appear to have spread. I'll do a 3 week cycle of BEP chemo and hopefully be done with it

That's good news, man.

I remember you set up a blood drive awhile back.

Best of luck and I'll add you to my prayer list.

Help her to see the blessings; she will be tended to by some phenomenal people. Encourage her to report side effects; if nausea meds aren’t working, let the drs know so they can try something else. Ask for prayers from everyone you know. Help her out at home, in the yard, etc. Many communities have volunteers that clean for cancer patients-your local cancer services should be able to direct you. Advocate for her when she needs you to - with medical providers, insurance, etc. Praying for y’all.

Went through the chop treatment years ago.

The one thing I regret is not telling the PA sooner about the burning sensation when I went to the bathroom. What it is the chemo kills the bacteria around the mouth and the rear end area. They have a cream which was great for that area.

The salt rinse they gave me was great to keep the mouth ulcers down.

Always have the care giver go with a notebook to write things down.

Best wishes and just be understanding if she get aggravated over little things.

quote:

Start a notebook to be shared with all caregivers that you use to keep all the info straight.. treatment plan, expected side effects, actual daily side effects she may experience, etc.

Do this, it becomes a whirlwind, impossible to remember many things like meds etc. Be positive and optimistic, use all available resources, including TD. God bless your Mom, praying for successful treatment and full recovery.
