Lots of great but pricey neighborhoods. Do you like paying $300,000 for lot and tear down? Do you want move in ready, fixer upper, location, etc.
Otherwise Tara is solid. Westminster is solid (and in the future St. George)
Broadmoor seems to be on the upswing and has some cool architectural options with fixer up potential:

Is it for the Walgreens on Jones Creek? That pharmacy is ridiculously incompetent. As a pharmacist though, I'm sure she can find a job in a better place than BR.

Bocage area, Goodwood and even Tara - but probably sellers won’t negotiate much on price

1) school age kids? 2)can you afford private school?
If yes to 1 and no to 2 --- Baton Rouge is not for you.

I commute from Prairieville to near OLOL and it is about 30 min in the morning and 45 min to an hour coming home.
These are some of the better apartments near OLOL and within your price range.
The Addison
Park Rowe
The District
High Grove

Let me give you some serious advice man, after living in BR for nearly 10 years we moved out of state (TN if you care). I’ve lived all over but my wife has never lived outside of LA.
We will never move back. The state has far too many cons. While some of the suggestions are humorous, and I suggest you take them with a grain of salt, stereotypes exist for a reason and most of these comments are true.
You’re talking about moving our in the next 10 years, why even waste your time? It sounds like your wife doesn’t have anything locked down, nor do you so what exactly is the real draw to Baton Rouge of all places?
Edit: I lived in Prairieville for 7 years and BR right by Town Center for 3 years. Town Center area was cool but it’s not like you can walk or bike anywhere in the city.
When we sold our home (mentioned above) we had three offers at list in 2 days. If you HAVE TO live in BR I would recommend that area.

OP mentioned that he has a daughter in this area from a previous marriage and that he works offshore. That would probably make Tennessee a bit laborious to keep up with

St. Francisville or Zachary. Then you don't have to pay for a private school.

It maybe tempting to live outside an across the bridge but don’t do it. At times we are prisoners on this side.

Staring Lane Motel. Pile the cash up in a bank up the road then move to another state after you have enough to buy a franchise in the motel
