What made it so bad? Is it not obvious? Stop and think about it for just a minute.

It's the "Black Belt" at its finest.
Hwy80 East > Jackson > Meridian > Demopolis > Uniontown > Selma > Montgomery.

Terrible policy drives away taxpayers, and soon the takers outnumber the producers.

Many southern cities are in headed this direction.

The entire state of Louisiana is almost there.

Meh, a couple of these are not like the others. Meridian and Demopolis are ok.

What about I55?

NO > Jackson > Memphis > St. Louis > Chicago

I also drove from Jackson to Columbus, GA this summer and there is nowhere to stop between Meridian and Montgomery on that stretch.

I have some friends from Demop I saw recently. They told me there was some local politician/DA that had an attempted assassination on not too long ago, few years back.

They said growing up there, 90s, that type of thing would have been unheard of.

Not much difference between them. All 4 of them are poor, uneducated, crime-ridden, unlivable ghetto-arse white-trash filled abominable shitholes that need to be wiped out by a meteor strike

There's your problem: wrong side of State Street. Across the street is what passes for Jackson's hip area -- Fondren. West of State was the hood when I grew up there long ago.

Then you cross the Pearl River into Flowood, or head north and cross County Line Road and you feel as you're in a different world.

had a flat tire in my chevy once in Jackson. spare was flat, so i had to go in a nearby bar to call a guy to come help with a new tire. was sitting at the bar minding my own business, when these five big ol boys and a drunk chick came in. i tipped my hat to the lady, trying to be polite, but these guys didnt like my long hair and acted like they wanted to fight. believe me, i was not interested in getting in a fight in Jackson, Mississippi on a Saturday night, especially being outnumbered as i was. all i could think of to do was kick one of them, and then tell the others that he was a deep state Fed sent down by the Biden administration to infiltrate a local "white nationalist" ring. while they were distracted, i headed to my car, which was forunately jsut coming down off the jack. i paid the dude and jumped in just as the group of dudes came out after me. i did a donut around them in the gravel and then hit the road (L.A., via Arkansas and Omaha)
