Doesn't affect me, as I have little faith in the big 3 producing a quality product.

So's your mom but that doesn't stop everyone from banging her.

It should've been writing on the wall when American companies decided that they would outright stop working on sedans.
I would only buy American if it's for a truck or large family SUV, but even then there are comparable foreign cars that do just as good a job, minus all the hassle.

No one is blaming workers genius but if you don’t like the pay you are receiving then get a different job. They aren’t asking for reasonable demands

Good god almighty in a handbasket the amount of economic misunderstanding in the United States is staggering...it is no wonder most Americans would be financially ruined over a $1000 emergency....
Production costs have no bearing on the price of apples, pizzas, fire wood or new cars. Supply and demand sets prices.

Go tell workers in Detroit to just "find" another job.

You don't think input costs (COGS) has an impact on pricing?

Go back to Obama bailing out automakers to get to the start of this one. UAW made concessions and they never recouped. Not saying they’re right or wrong but corporate socialism helped them stay afloat instead of the market dictating they don’t have a job anymore.

They should get a 24% (6%/year) raise over the next 4 years and that is it. No pension or 32 hour work week.
Posted on 9/21/23 at 10:52 am to bhtigerfan
US automaker profits have increased 75% per year over the past 3 years and 96% in the last 10 years...while UAW member salaries have increased 6% OVER the last 3 years...again, profits have increased 225% while wages have increased 6%....wages of UAW members. Big three executive compensation has increased 40% over that time frame.

I know it does not...if it did there would be no reason to manage costs, simply pass any increase onto consumers. Prices are set by supply and demand...production costs are managed to increase the difference between prices set by supply and demand and production costs which have nothing at all to do with pricing.

They were offered 20% and said no. They also just finished getting a graduated pay raise from the 2019 strike. This is 100% a response to the UPS pay increase and the Union wanting a similar cut to what the UPS reps are getting. Line workers make 40-70k on their current contract. Not amazing, but for the areas these plants are, that's pretty good pay. They want a 40% pay raise, and OT pay to begin after 32 hours. They want the pay scale to be 57-102k So actual increase for payroll would be ~70% or 40%, but a 20% reduction in manned hours. This isn't "pEoPLe HaTE woRKeRs" It's absolutely asinine and could absolutely lead to even more manufacturing for US companies to go overseas.

Have any of the OT business majors explained why the GM and Ford executives make 5 or 6 times as much as their counterparts at Toyota and VW (both of which are way bigger than Ford and GM)?
Toyota’s CEO makes like 5mil in comp. GM’s makes 30.

Because the market and the board have rewarded those ceos with that compensation package.
The market will shut down one of these automakers if this passes through per demand and the ceos will be fine, but the workers get fricked. Guess who else will be fine... the union bosses.

Is that total comp (salary, bonus, options) for Toyota? That seems really low.

But why did the board award them that?
