Yeah, I don’t think much has reached the ground today at all in TX
We've finally had a few drops in Houston, but radar definitely looks like a lot more is falling. Just too dry.

Monroe is at 32° as of 6:53. Alexandria is at 38° and 39° on each of their stations.

It’s gotta fall to moisten it up. And the evaporation will cool the surface off a little.

I left the 1.4 inches of water in my gauge so I can go outside tomorrow and see it frozen.

HRRR is still killing precip as it moves East. Radar shows some "Mix" near New Iberia, but I bet it isn't reaching the ground. Even if it is, it is 38° right now.

If it's one of those cheap standard rain gages, it'll crack if the water freezes

Of course!
Right where the clodest temps actually meets some moisture. Now, all that is needed is the precip....and the freezing temps.

Checking in from Youngsville. Radar shows some precip. Just let the dog out to piss and it is drizzling some but thermometer outside only shows 38°

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service
New Orleans LA 823 PM CST Thu Jan 20 2022
EVENING UPDATE...No major changes made to the forecast. Still looks like a good chance of seeing some minor frozen precipitation. Power outages and tree damage are not expected but it would not be out of the question to see ice accumulation just under 0.1" in a few locations. So where is that going to occur if it does, well there are two locations. First area which will be around the area that the heaviest precip is expected and that is in a southwest to northeast line between BTR and Thibodaux and towards Slidell and possibly coastal MS. Second area could be a good bit north where we weren`t anticipating much precip, this area possibly just south of the LA/MS border in the Florida parishes. The reason for this is we are currently watching a line of showers across southeast TX moving to the east. Previous days it was expected that any precip moving out of southeast TX would dissipate but looking at the radar and especially satellite this is looking less likely to completely dissipate. This area is also running the coldest currently in our CWA so there wouldn`t be any wasting of rain as that area cools to freezing. Overall looking at the WV there is a lot of lit moving right over the region. There was some concern that it may be suppressed a little south along with the moisture but currently looking that doesn`t appear to be the case. South LA and southern MS are both under the influence of the RRQ of the jet. This appears to be helping the convection as cooler cloud tops continue to stream in from the west and southwest. Radar is also showing echo return becoming a little more enhanced and moving in. Given our 00z sndg we still have some of the mid-levels to moisten up but the bottom 5k ft is already 90-100% saturated. We will send up another balloon shortly and see how much the column has changed and send another up around midnight. /CAB/
