If Pat Gillens still existed, we could go there and get a definitive answer from the old timer day drinkers that used to hang out there.

If you were really from Old Metaire - you’d blame this on the train and evil railroad. You from Metry, brah

That’s is literally the original Old Metairie

Some people don’t realize that Hickory, Dickory and Dock is where the founders of Old Metairie first landed

Is there a Sonic in Old Metairie where this argument can be settled? Maybe just meet at Oscars and brawl in the streets.

How about Mugz’s on Vets. Not officially in Old Metry. Good place if you’re over 50!

Yes. The Old Metairie Sonic is on the corner of Cleary and Vererans Blvd.

The OT has revised the map of OM to include lafreniere park as the western boundary and the lake as the northern. There’s potential to extend west as far as power / David Dr

Adjust accordingly.

Out in Kennerbrah the smoke is thick. Fires in the marshes that direction according to WWL.

Maybe the Lafitte one blowing north?

Friend,

The elevated natural levee that constitutes River Ridge, Old Metairie, and Gentilly Ridge has existed for millennia. It starts at the river where Kenner and River Ridge meet. Back in the mid 1800s, the River broke through at this spot, which became known as Sauve’s Crevasse. It simply wanted to find its old Bayou Savage meander that goes all the way to the Rigolets.

Neighborhoods in New Orleans are usually defined by their history and geography, so it would be interesting if someone offered an argument for how the Metairie Ridge that extends past the cemeteries and into City Park could potentially be included in Old Metairie. At some point, though, we cannot have the entire Metro be Old Metairie, even though the Gentilly Ridge out by Dong Phuong has more similarities with its biomass and soils to Old Metairie than the New Orleans East soils out by the lake, say near Castnet Seafood.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I think that the three streets (Maryland, Bellaire, Fairway) east of the 17th St Canal to Metairie Cemetary and between Metairie Rd and north to the railroad tracks could be considered Old Metairie even though they are in Orleans Parish. Those streets have a lot more in common with Old Metairie than New Orleans.

Even New Metairie is old at this point. I just call it all Metairie, or when I'm speaking french, little farm.
