Smoke detector going off at 2:45 am. Why does it happen at such an hour?

Worried sick to my stomach when I heard it going off at 2:45 am. Was moving so fast I nearly slipped and broke my hip on my imported marble floor while hastily going from the third floor all the way to the culprit, which was the kitchen detector’s battery dying. Of all things!!

Of course, this happens when no one else is home. Why the odd time of 2:45 am? Don’t these things go off during normal hours?

I’m calling the home builders tomorrow, and believe me, they’ll hear a complaint!

Real OT ballers know to have their smoke detectors hard wired into the alarm system.

Unbelievable PA. Make sure to use the most conspicuous inflection when filing your complaint. Those bozos need to better maintain those damn things.

Those still require batteries most of the time...

Alas, batteries are required for any time the power source may be shut off.

They still have a damn backup battery that chirps. Ours usually start about 2-3 am

Despite the insufferable nature of the OP, he brings a legit question to the OT. I can’t think of a single time that one of these has ever started chirping in the middle of the day.

This happened to us last week and it is hardwired into the alarm system. The fricking alarm company kept blowing up my phone at 2:45am. Pissed me off! Had to climb on a stool, locate batteries and change them. Why doesn't it happen in the daytime? Never. Only at night.

Ooh- I know this one. At night, the temperature typically drops a few degrees. The cooler temperature increases the resistance in the battery. In a battery which is dying, that extra resistance can be enough to cause a low battery notification in the alarm. Once the house heats up again in the daytime, the battery’s resistance drops back down and enough power is delivered to the alarm to keep it from chirping.

They’re made in China. To them it is the middle of the day.

yours actually goes off when the battery is low? that's retarded. mine just chirps every few seconds. no panic, no fuss, just replace the battery and be done.

First off, they aren't installed in the kitchen if electrical. Secondly, the one with a low battery should be the only one chirping.

My old house went off when low. And it always fricking happened at 2am so it was impossible to find the culprit. I ended up just taking them all down and replaced all the batteries the next day.

Here in CCL my smoke detectors are hard wired and the help changes the backup battery every 90 days. My advice to you would be to get a better job and stop being such a whiny, poor bitch.
