One day most new buildings, residential and commercial, will have solar capture, and some level of micro energy independence.

Not if you true believers keep forcing this. Imagine if you environmental loons didnt protest nuclear decades ago.

Well sure is another reason to try and prevent/contain forest fires

This is like saying a sensible way to stop damage to power lines from hurricanes is to try and prevent hurricanes.

Forest fires have been happening for all of earth's history; it is only relatively recently that humans have been inconvenienced by them.

Isn't solar just about the most vulnerable power source to both natural disasters and sabotage ?

Based on the nat gas we have under our feet it’s retarded we don’t use it for cheap energy the next few hundred years.

Yeah, but that's kind of a moot point when you think of how sabotage has reared its head the last few years with ecoterrorists shooting rounds into main power transformers. Doesn't matter if the power source is vulnerable if the substation is more vulnerable.

I'd be way more worried about our power delivery infrastructure before I was concerned with the sources of power

Is this supposed to be a gotcha on solar power?

Yes. And, it is. Anyone who purports to be “green” should be out picketing against these solar fields that are hundreds of acres in size. They produce almost no power for the effort and are ruining vast amounts of green habitat.

What if we don't care about green and just like solar because it is a future technology with tons of upside?

You should be caring more about sustained power generation for the grid.

Solar will never, ever fill that role. No renewable will.

Since when are oil & gas sustainable? We MIGHT have 100 or so more years to use them as a resource at the levels we do now. Shouldn't we figure out renewables well before the shite hits the fan?

No, it's not suitable in most places and requires tons of fresh water. Try again.

You really are someone with no vision beyond what is already capable.

Sure glad we have people with actual vision handling the future.

This bullshite talking point again? You do know that exploration and extraction technologies have vastly improved in the decades since this was first spouted right?

How about going back to nuclear as it can provide vast amount of clean and reliable energy in much smaller footprints than any renewable. Solar and wind are amongst the least reliable and lowest energy producers vs installed capacity out of all prime generation methods. Nuclear is by far the best.

Solar power accounts for around 3% of electricity generation in New England,

I'd like to know how much green space for plants or food were sacrificed for this measily amount

I'm someone who understands reality and the fact that geothermal is only practical in so many places on earth. The laws of physics and economics don't give a shite about your vision.

Why not both? Why tie ourself to one type of energy generation?

Same was said about some oil deposits before fracking became widespread, right?

Nuclear should be our primary focus while fossil fuel plants should also be built to continue providing reliable and economically sound energy. Renewables should be a tertiary concern.

So despite a century of data showing renewables are viable you are against them.

I'm sure this is a scientific stand and not a political stand you are on.
