Figured this deserves its own thread. The reasoning for this is laughable. These politicians need to admit that they are just wanting to exert their authority.

BTW, all government employees are exempt. Shocked. Welcome to the start of a communist state.

quote:

Hoping to reduce police officers' possible exposure to coronavirus, Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer and Police Chief Randy Fandal have ordered a mandatory nightly curfew for the city, beginning Friday night at 11 p.m. The curfew will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice, the Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page.

Cromer said that he was approached about enacting a curfew a couple of days ago by both Fandal and Chris Kaufman, fire chief for St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1. "At first, I wasn't convinced," Cromer said. But several things changed his mind, including a gun store in the city that was robbed twice, both times between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Another factor was the large number of overnight interactions between police and the public over the past eight or nine days, he said.

"It's a public safety measure and a public health measure," Cromer said of the curfew.

He said that he had discussed the matter with other municipalities and the parish, but no one else was ready to take the step..

This virus may be the best thing that ever happened to Slidell.

I am curious as how many interactions occur at night with all the bars closed.

And hey, if you are that worried about exposure, don't just randomly pull people over.

Who wants to bet their nightly interactions go up now that they will be out enforcing the curfew? Let’s face it, they are itching to enforce a curfew.

Do they really think that someone that's going to break into someplace is going to worry about following a curfew?

It’s against the law to rob gun stores, but I’m sure making it against the law to be out past 11 will make those criminals think twice.

What they should really do is adjust the laws to make it harder to get guns.

For sure. I can always tell the ones who’ve really been there by the depth of hatred and disgust in their post.

How does changing laws to make it harder to get guns make it harder for people who get guns by robbing gun stores to get guns?

Agreed - I’m from Slidell and I’m not understanding any of these posts. Shoot, it was back a ways but our public high school (Northshore) had the highest ACT test scores of any school in the state - including private schools.

Did you know the guy at Northshore who fricked a pig to cure his acne? Class of 91 or 92 if memory serves.

Police, firefighters, and public works are government employees. Not like this is some kind of conspiracy
