The Parish Council, with a Feb. 17 filing deadline for the legislative session looming, called Monday's meeting to consider addressing the matter.

An early version of the resolution before the Parish Council on Monday said Parish President Mike Cooper and the council "are fully committed" to providing the voting public with the opportunity to approve the project and said both branches of government support legislators filing such a bill in the upcoming session.

But the council ultimately approved a version less full-throated in its support. It noted the reasons the council opposed the move in 2020, said the council had been appropriately consulted this time and that the parish's economic development organization had been able to collect the relevant details in preparation for public input.

In light of that, the resolution said that the legislative delegation can proceed "as they see fit."

and just as committed to seeing that it is approved regardless of what the public says.

the Parish Council on Monday approved a non-binding resolution by an 11-1 vote that said the parish's legislative delegation can proceed with efforts to pass a bill allowing voters to decide whether to allow gambling on the proposed site. The resolution was not required for lawmakers to take that step and does not have the force of law.

That's huge....if the neighborhood is for it...then there is nothing going to stop it now

How can you be against this....????

Not to mention the taxes the parish will collect on top of this

Plans for the 100-acre vacant waterfront property east of the Blind Tiger restaurant include a 250-room hotel, and the company says it will pitch in money for non-casino projects — $30 million for a sports and family entertainment complex and $5 million for the Slidell ring levee.

Those assurances and the promise of 1,700 construction jobs and more than 1,000 permanent jobs,
have grabbed the attention of elected officials.

The casino will pay 5% of its gaming revenue to the parish, according to the company, which is projected to generate about $7.5 million annually. Overall, the casino and resort is projected to generate about $10 million per year in tax revenue for local government.

P2E has also agreed to put $30 million toward a community sports and family entertainment complex in eastern St. Tammany that would provide a place for local recreation but also draw large-scale tournaments that bring in visitors.

The company also agreed to pay $5 million toward a long-sought levee to protect the Slidell area.

build a $250 casino resort near Slidell

Given that we’re talking about Slidell, it’s probably not a typo. $250

Great fricking business plan, may as well open 1000 check cashing places all along the lake front. Preying on poor people is free money!

This subdivision is on the other side of the interstate from the location. Let's see what the people of Lakeshore Estates have to say. I am sure they will be up in arms.

At this rate we are gonna need a wall around Slidell to protect the rest of the Northshore from its trashiness

I figured it would be more than that. That will barely cover the politicians raises.

Be sure to build some playgrounds where you open them...maybe a running track can connect them. The great ‘08 trail.

Mrs. Peyroux was my fifth grade teacher and we lived on the same street. She was tough but an awesome teacher. Blast from the past right there.

Yes, EBR Parish has three casinos and it’s great. With all the taxes we collect our streets are paved with gold.

Seriously, if a casino provided good entertainment, good jobs and is in the right area; it’d find by me; however, voting for a casino just to collect more taxes doesn’t add up. The taxes won’t make a difference in the quality of life. It miraculously vanishes.

What will they do with these tax dollars? Will our property taxes go down or will they just find things to spend the money on?

There's 2 route the casino thing can go- BR/Shreveport model or the Lake Charles model.

The 2 properties in Lake Charles are amazing- truly a resort feel. They have pumped tons of money into them and they are a destination spot, especially in the summer with the pools/golf. The largest factor propping them up is the amount of $$$ coming in from Texas.

I would imagine a Slidell project would be nice and modern, but I don't see the influx of money coming in to make it such a resort style place.

And isn’t there a planned billion dollar entertainment expansion at the Beau coming?

Seems like this is destined to be a half assed effort resulting in shitty patrons/guests and the inevitable slide into shittyness and crime
