And you’d have no idea how long it was at that temperature. Sounds very unhelpful. Could just use common sense instead.
If the powers out more than 6-8 hours or so without opening the fridge, you need to toss the perishables.
Or, because I would know exactly when it lost power, exactly when the power came back on, exactly what temperature it was at when the power was restored, and exactly how quickly the temperature made it back within an acceptable range, I might be able to save an entire refrigerator full of food that I would have tossed if I were otherwise relying on vibes and Entergy's half-assed updates. It would also be trivial to add a small internal battery to power only the temperature sensors and storage during an outage, which would then be reported, in full, as soon as power was restored. Then we would know, to the minute, how long food was in the danger zone.
As I said, refrigerators would be way down the list of appliances I would care about being capable of connecting to the internet, but to pretend as though there's no reasonable use case for doing so just strikes me as silly.

Anyone who is dumb enough to buy a smart refridgerator also has Wifi and/or cable and/or cameras and/or the smart thermostats, or a number of other things up to and including an app from your electricity provider that gives you this exact same information.
And on top of all of that, its still just easier to use common sense.

Except that this thread is full of people saying that there's no reason to have anything other than computers and maybe a laptop connected to wifi. Those people would have zero extra information, correct?

Easier, only in the sense that it's less precise and requires you to err on throwing out everything in the fridge. But sure, I suppose that's "easier".

The worst part was, he went on Twitter telling his User that his team was going to work overnight to fix everything.
Like how hypocritical is that? Why don’t you eat your own dog food?

If your power was out overnight or for the entire working day, you need to throw the shite out. You don't need a thermometer to tell you that.
I'm missing what the point is.

You're out of town. Based on Entergy texts, your power has been out somewhere in the range of 3-5 hours. That's all the information you have.
Person who owns the above hypothetical refrigerator is out of town. They get the same Entergy texts. When the power came back on, their fridge reported that it was without power for three hours and 35 minutes. The refrigerator reached a temperature of 56 degrees and was above 40 degrees for an hour and fifteen minutes. The freezer reached a temperature of 38 degrees (it had been packed to the gills).
My point, quite simply, is that I would vastly prefer be the latter person than you.

Neither person is tossing all of their stuff. Well unless you count having get rid of that dogshit fridge that lost 20+ degrees in two hours

The devices can be hacked allowing access to your home network which could lead to identity theft.
Hacked devices can give recorded video and audio to hackers, essentially allowing surveillance inside your home.
Hackers can track your movements using your doorbell and even baby monitors leading to break ins.
DDOS can be used to shut down your devices or entire network.

You should look up current food safety suggestions as well discern the difference between two hours and over three, but I was fairly certain this was going to happen
How about, for the sake of being reasonable people, you pretend as though my previous hypothetical skirts right into the danger zone, but not clearly past it. More information is better than less information. Anyone who insists otherwise is being unreasonable, in my opinion.

I’ll keep the normal fridge that would never have that issue in that amount of time.

The savings on AC alone make it a worthwhile investment. It keeps the mattress so cool that I rarely turned my hvac on during summer evenings
