This is what a woman wants projected onto the man's position. You require attention but, for whatever reason, don't want to be frank about it. Instead, language is used to try to make it seem like the man should desire to keep in close contact. Somehow, the man is defective for not meeting the woman's need for attention.

All of this. As a man, I don’t want constant communication with the person I’m in a relationship with, at least not over the phone. That way, I’ll have more to say when we meet in person. I don’t really care about every thought that enters my SO’s head. I really don’t care about how dat b from work did ______ AGAIN!!!? Or how the salad you ate at lunch reminded you of that 7th grade field trip when Tammy made fun of your hair.

See, the problem is that for men, communicating is a means to an end. I want the person I am communicating with to know something, do something, or to plan something with them. For women, communicating is the end in and of itself. Communicating is how many women give and receive affection and intimacy. That’s why they talk talk talk talk talk for hours and hours about nonsense when I just want to go to sleep.

When I speak, I don’t want to give someone the minutiae of my day, because it doesn’t matter to me. I let those little things go, and they don’t effect the way I feel or my mood the rest of the day. I want to make sure that when I speak, it’s important and worth listening to. There’s no reason to waste time reporting on mindless consequence free minutiae.

Women rarely compartmentalize like that. Every little thing effects their overall mood, so to them, every little thing matters. Thus, they have a lot more worth sharing.

For me, I’m fine with not speaking every day. I certainly don’t want to say goodnight every night because odds are, she’s going to want to talk for another 2-3 hours and I’m going to show up to work the next day unable to really do my job. I want to save my communication time for when I can give her my undivided attention and spend real quality face to face time together rather than eating into my time when I need to do other things to keep my self alive (sleep, cook, house chores, etc). I’ve burnt the candle at both ends and have learned to set boundaries now as a result.
