Singapore and Paris Top World’s Most Expensive Cities

The EIU survey is designed to help companies calculate cost-of-living allowances and build compensation packages for expatriates and business travelers. As recent as 2013, Tokyo was the world’s costliest city to live in. The Japanese capital dropped seven places to 11th over the past year. Hong Kong, last year’s second-most expensive city, slipped to fourth place.

How did London and Tokyo not make this list? Tokyo should still be on this despite the verbiage on the bottom. That place will drain your wallet.

Pre Brexit when the pound was valuable London would have been on the list.

Good point.
I'm traveling to London in a few months and the pound is basically at a 1:1 with the US Dollar. I know five years ago it would have been closer to a 1:.75 ratio.

Damn. When I was there 4 years ago it was at like 1.75 to our $1. I’ll be in Italy in June and making a stop 2 day in London on our way out. Glad to see it’s down I guess, that means the Euro is down as well.

I can attest to Singapore being expense. The first day I landed I ordered a cheeseburger and a coke while at the hotel pool and it was $36 (without service/tip). I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental which is nice, but by no means one of the most expensive hotels in Singapore.
