Exactly! The whole “Xmas” thing is a perfect example. They play it off like it’s a quick and convenient way to write Christmas, but it’s plainly obvious what they’re crossing out with that x.
You could more accurately state that Christ was used to do away with X.

Devout Catholic, but I actually like the idea of the Easter Bunny, eggs, and candy. It's a great way to make kids interested in Easter, because they just won't full understand the religious connotations on its own. It's not like it's harming them. Easter is the holiest day in Christendom. Go enjoy it with your family and celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord, brother!
