no one killed, only a minor injury or two during the evac, heck yeah, you can always get another airplane, there's been quite a bit of data collected that indicates he may have had a better chance of making it back to the(an) airport that it appeared to be, but put in that position, with what was at stake, I think he made the best choice to give everyone on that plane the best chance for survival

Never noticed this before today but it's pretty funny how he says "great view of the Hudson today" on the initial climb out.

What I read online was the first few simulations with pilots weren't realistic because once the bird strike happened in the simulator, the pilots with hindsight knew what it was and were able to immediately direct the plane towards an airport in the simulator.
When they added a delay to simulate the "figuring shite out" part, the success rate went closer to 50/50.
Thoughts?

That simulation makes it seem pretty easy TBH. Out of 100 pilots how many do you think would have
A) come to the same conclusion
B) landed it safely

well, when you're in the sim, and you know it's coming, of course you're geared up for it, but in our scenario we have a total, no shite loss of thrust, and the jury is still out on how much available thrust Sully had, it is a pretty realistic demonstration and while you're doing it, the thought of "it's just a sim, doesn't matter if I make it or not," doesn't come to mind, on the 50/50 number, I'm not aware of anyone that had an unsuccessful outcome, either ditching or getting back to the airport, and I believe you would be hard pressed to find an experienced airline pilot that would perform otherwise

oh, I see, I watched quite a few of those and a lot of the guys put it in the river because they just wanted to do a water landing, others wanted get back to the pavement just to see if they could, I really don't have a number but it probably wasn't too far off 50/50, for the above stated reasons

I got to introduce Sully as the key note speaker at a customer conference. Spoke to him for a few minutes before he went on. He is the calmest person I have ever met. Total flatliner. Hah

Yes. And they still suck. It was a contributor to the Air Asia crash a couple years ago.

sticks, but it's fly by wire, they're basically computer mice, if they're moved simultaneously in the same direction the input demand will be algebraically added to a certain limit, if moved with equal input in the opposite direction the input demand will be cancelled, either side can lock out the other
