I believe Philip Caputo wrote about rock apes in A Rumor of War.

Or was it Robert Mason in Chickenhawk?

I'm gonna say it was Robert Mason. I don't recall reading anything regarding rock apes in Lt. Caputo's book. But then again, it's been a couple decades since I've read it.

I read an auto biography about a marine scout sniper. He did mention them.

I think they're supposed to be like the Vietnam Bigfoot or Orang Pendek. Never proven real, but there were a bunch of sightings by soldiers in Vietnam.

I agree. I’ve read Caputos book twice, and I don’t recall any discussion about Rock Apes.

I believe I read his, or some in his platoon, book because I remember that story. Also read a book that included a tiger attack in the middle of the night that killed one and severely wounded another. Then the survivors were tracked by nva for several days after bringing attention to themselves when they shot the damn thing.

If it weren’t f’ing apes or tigers, it was snakes…or massive ants…or deadly spiders…or one of the many diseases in the jungle.

Then you had folks hunting you down every step of the way, hiding in tunnels, or in trees, or blending in with the “good guys”.

All this while a bunch of pansied arse hippys spit on you when returning stateside, and a worthless, spineless government using you like cheap toilet paper.

I have massive amounts of respect for our military, even more for those that served during wartime. But, Vietnam war vets, even the REMF’s to some degree, y’all were, in my eyes, genuine bad asses.

Remember a guy at LSU working data/com had a war story about apes at night hurling large stones into his perimeter and injuring some troopers during a patrol.
He had more details than just that.
Troops fired back thinking rocks were grenades but no bodies just lots of blood.
He was a 1st Cav trooper if I recall correctly.

I don’t know about that pic, but that’s a monkey, not an ape..

Wouldn’t it be a Rock Monkey?
