And she has twins named Texas and Miner.

Not quite four months ago, Betsy Boyd spent 41 percent of her annual salary on a kidney transplant for her ailing 17-year-old cat, Stanley.

If I had the funds, I'd pay whatever is necessary to make my pet feel better. However, if it's 41% of my annual salary, I could not afford it.
I know of people who dropped $10,000 on elderly cats and dogs, but they have the money to do so, and I would do the same thing in their position.

And she has zero debt according to the article, which helps

That is insane, no matter how much money you have. Animals don’t understand their own mortality. The humane thing is to put them down when they reach that age with major health problems. Not subject it (and another perfectly healthy cat) to organ transplant with the hopes of getting a few extra weeks. Let him go.

She looks a little flaky.

I would be happy to beat up the vet that took her money.
Preying on peoples feelings like that.
Vet should have put cat down, told owner it died on operating table and tell her, this one's on me, no charge.

Exaxtly.
A selfish act indeed. That cat deserved to go to his place in the sky with his maker and not be stuck with this trick.
Some owners I tell ya.

Do you suppose she pays taxes?

No animal is worth that. Put it down humanely and move onto the next one if pets are your thing.

If I knew the guy that had sex with that thing, I'd beat the shite outta him.

The cat is 17 thats old as shite. Even if you had the money I’d rather just put the cat down and get a new young cat if that’s how much it would cost to save it

True story (I think). A friend of mine related the following: Muffy, the 10 year old family cat took very sick and my friend’ s dad took the cat and the concerned children (all under 12 years old) to the vet to have Muffy diagnosed. The kids had to wait in the car. The vet examined the cat, told dad there was a potential for a full recovery, but the course of treatment involving expensive drugs, surgery, and repeated, time consuming trips to the clinic would cost over $5000. Dad comes out to the car without the cat, opens the door, gets in, looks at all the kids and says: “Bad news. Muffy ain’t gonna make it.”

They all need more cats.

I’d have spent the 5 grand in that situation without a blink.

That is admirable of you.
This was Oakland in the ‘70s.

Pets should have the gd freedom to die, I wishwe had put our dog down earlier; they don't deserve to suffer
