Cat probably doesn't have too many yrs left before other issues arise. Ol' baw a stay at home husband, so he probably doesn't have much sayso in the decision.

People piss away money all the time. Long as she earns it, she can spend it as she pleases. Why does it matter to anyone?

You’re a real tough guy. So the vet should have lied to a client and violated the oath he or she took? Sounds like a good plan.

While this is true, being debt free helps. Also, the article says 41% of HER annual salary. Her husband, Michael Yockel, is a freelance writer and, based on a quick Google search, appears to have been an editor on several small papers or magazines. But saying they have huge savings or that he makes more money doesn't make for as good a story.

I dropped $2000 on a surgery to repair my dog's leg/hip after I rescued him from an abusive owner and it was the best decision I ever made and would do something like that again. $19,000 though? frick that.

A former coworker said she had an old sick cat that needed to be put down. So she brought it to the vet and was quoted a price of $250. She said screw that and decided to do it herself with a ketchup bottle. After the first hit, to her shock, the cat did not die. It took a couple more swings to finally end it. She buried the cat in her backyard and told her daughter the cat was put asleep at the vet’s office. The next week the daughter found a cat tooth in the bathroom. My coworker said she did a face palm and told another lie.

Pretty good way to handle it. Had a very similar situation happen when I was a kid but I have no idea the financials behind it. My siblings and I all cried, and then a few weeks later, we got a new cat.
