RATT at the Hirsch was my first concert ever. Reach for the Sky Tour with openers Britny Fox & Kix in 1989.

Shreveport used to get some really big acts touring in the prime of their careers, oddly enough so did Monroe

Not long after they closed I found a bunch of their glasses at goodwill. Bought like 10 of them and still have them. Great conversation starter when I bring them out for get togethers lol.

For all the people in their 40's. Chucky Cheese where hobby lobby is now with the movie theater that was next door was awesome.
I ate so many meals at George's Grill sitting next to someone just puffy cigarettes after they ate.
The giant Rocket at Betty Virginia Park was 100% a life threatening event every time, and our parents just said have fun.

Going way back, the Kickapoo, the Kokomo, and Sak's Whisk-a-GoGo on the Bossier Strip.

When was Shreveports heyday and when did it start nosediving?
People have already said two things. The 80's downturn in oil and the rise of gang violence because of crack got things rolling downhill for Shreveport. But Shreveport was ok thru the 90's for a mid size southern town.
Then the casinos came in. Next the brain drain of college educated kids having to leave Shreveport to find work really hurt the town. I'd say 80% of my graduating class from the 90's moved away from Shreveport to find work.
The shale boom did help make a lot of landowners rich, but that money never really made it back into investing into Shreveport.
The last nail in the coffin has been the successive election of democrat mayors and the growth of ghetto violence. Not one of the democrat mayors have done anything to help Shreveport and the Ark La Tex.

One of my favorite places in downtown Shreveport was Payton's Book Store, when I was a kid. It was the storefront business in front (I believe) of the old Henry Hotel. I think that was the name of it. Not sure if the place was originally "City Book and Coin" or if that was a different establishment altogether.
The appeal of the store was the tall stacks of used comic-books, at half-off prices. 20-cent comics were a dime, but the 15-cent comics were eight cents. With a buck, I'd come away with a boatload of issues of "Weird War Tales," "Kid Colt Outlaw," "Turok, Son of Stone," and even some "Sad Sack" comics. It was always quite a bounty. Still have that stuff to this very day, and recall getting them there at Payton's. The place was still there when I visited town again in 1984, but I don't think it lasted much longer than that.

I'm surprised Kon Tiki wasnt mentioned more in this thread. That was a regular hangout for me and Mrs. PoppaD and we miss Chuck and his place.
Mrs. PoppaD would have a couple Mules and was ready to get down.

travesty that this place closed

what was the place downtown on Texas Street in the late 80s that you could get into even if you were under age? Catharsis?

Not sure if same place but late 80’s was a place called Club Capri.
If you are talking 80's - early 90's, I think it is/was Chelsea's. Right next to the Texas St Bridge and Spring St coming into Shreveport. I spent a good number of High School nights at the Circle-in-the-Square.
