Good guys though. I've played basketball at the Y with several of them on several occasions.
Good athletes, but terrible at basketball.

good thing he kept his pie hole shut about it, could have been Jim Leslied
That was some fricked up shite. I remember the day the arrested him for the Leslie murder. He was holed up in his house threatening suicide, with the police and TV cameras outside showing it live. If I remember right, a reporter who was a reserve police officer went in and talked him out. He died of natural causes before he ever went to trial.

I read an article about it in the Shreveport Times a few years ago. It's probably out there somewhere but I don't have a link.

sadly, I have to agree, lots of opportunities for it to be a great place, people there have a strange mentality there, they bitch about we don't have this, why can't we get that? then they get it and won't support it
It's an odd place with peculiar people. Everyone I knew from college had this cult-like persona about the city. They would defend that place till death. Obviously, there is a decent amount of money there, but 65% of the city(and I may be going conservative here)is unlivable and filled with undesirables.
It's plenty big enough to have a big university (25,000+ enrollment), yet there isn't one.
Parts of it are plenty nice (the other 35% - realistically, probably 15%), yet everything seems to simply wither away. Good and bad. Which goes back to the

The citizens of Shreveport who capitalized on the Haynesville Shale did not invest in the city. All that money could have been used to build a sustainable economy. Instead they blew it and now the city has nothing to show for it.

As someone who moved here about 4 years can confirm all of it. Shreveport/Bossier is a cult...with many sub-cults. Everyone has their regular things they complain about...but none of them could ever fathom leaving, and simultaneously believe the area is one of the most special places out there. Overall, it's a nice small-medium sized city in the south...it's a nice place to live...with some very amusing people

I love Shreveport. I grew up in a small town in CENLA and moved to Shreveport in 1999. I used to think Shreveport was the "Big City". We had to drive to Shreveport or Alec to go to the mall when I was a kid.
Now that I live here and have spent time in Houston, Dallas and New York City I realize Shreveport is the perfect size. Big enough to have everything you need like specific stores and good dining, but small enough I can be in the woods hunting or fishing on 1 of 5+ different lakes within 30 minutes of leaving the house.

Ahhhh the Ratchet City. I grew up there. Clicks and cult-like is an understatement. Damn good hunting around there and damn good Mexican food. Those are the only 2 things I miss. I moved away when I was 27. Never looked back. Then convinced my family to get the hell out of there. They all moved too. Left a lot of good friends behind who succumbed to the dumbasseness. Do I miss it? Hell no.

This right here... plus it's nice having a downtown that always has something going, and you can find free parking in under 5 minutes. It's just easy to live here

Given the leadership of this city it's not hard to imagine why they didn't invest, throwing good money after bad isn't a great idea.
I've lived here for 30+ years and it's always been about wasted potential. If all you know about of Shreveport is what you see from Downtown or I-49 then you are missing most of the picture, there's a lot of development going on and a lot of recent effort by those with the means and influence to start turning things around in earnest. The recent mayoral election is a good sign, I've got more optimism for Perkins than many based on the conversations with other veterans that have spoken with him at length. He really wants to leverage his resume, which is an enormous improvemt from the last barely literate mayor, to get some business development here.

Same, it honestly makes me more mad than sad.
We’ve got I-20 and I-49 intersecting right there and not a damn thing to show for it other than shitty casinos.
Once Texas finally gets its shite together and decides to have casinos, Shreveport is fricking done for.
