Any of you guys ever had shoulder surgery? I have a torn labrum, rotator cuff tear, and possible bicep tear. Having surgery Tuesday.

Any information and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have a recliner to sleep in. Laying down on a bed or couch will be extremely difficult for several weeks.

Agree with this...

"Wear your sling
Follow MD restrictions
Go to PT
Do your home exercises
Your in it for the long haul"

Be patient. Good luck with bathroom duties.

Get the nerve block. The first few PT sessions are brutal.

Yeah. I tore my right labrum. Surgery is miserable. Advice in here is on point. Get a recliner!! Ohh, and go on the ducks sporting goods website and get an icing device that you can wrap around your shoulder. The time it saves you will be well worth the money because sitting on the couch icing that thing and hot being able to move gets real old real fast

practice wiping with your off hand if it's your dominant arm.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I slacked on the pt and home exercises. Set me back months and I was 18 and in great physical condition

Do what the doc says and do it often!

I had the same surgery for all 3, compared to ACL/LCL knee surgery the pain wasn’t near as bad. The was part was keeping my arm in the brace that wraps around you for 8 weeks. Once you start the rehab take it seriously and you should be ok. 10 years later and it’s fine outside of a little arthritis now and then.

Agree with sleeping in recliner
Disturbed sleep a big complaint.
Be patient as you can expect about 10% strength improvements a month.
Full recovery for return to normal activities with full strength may take a year, but functional strength 6 mos.

Complete your rehab. Including the home exercises. It sucks but do it. I wish that I had after my first surgery.

Biding my time until the inevitable second one because I did not do what I was supposed to do.

I had a bankart repair of my shoulder in 2001 after a dislocation

prepare to sleep sitting up. stay ahead of the pain with the pain meds
and go above and beyond with home therapy as best as you can

My ex (no pics) broke her shoulder and humerus last summer 2019. Had reconstructive surgery. From my info, she’s still not 100% and prob never will be. She’s also lazy and quit PT halfway through and did her own thing at home.

Find a comfy recliner you'll be sleeping in it for a couple of months. Prepare for alot of pain, it's the worst rehab of any surgery. Get comfy wiping your arse with your non dominant hand

This may sound sarcastic, but very true.

I’m a veteran of 3 shoulder surgeries!
