Maybe he was in a place where there wasn't enough shoulder to get over and have room to change the tire?
Like if you blew one out on the I-10 basin bridge or something.

Am I an a-hole for implying that this dude's manliness should be questioned for not being able to change a tire? Or are we just sadly headed in that direction as a generation?
I recently had a flat and, since my vehicle has odd spare placement beneath the car, I searched YouTube for my make and model and got specific tips that weren't in the manual (you can only retrieve the tire from one side of the car). If anything, there are fewer excuses today for a guy to not change his own tire.

Yes.
Just so you know, if you're single (i.e. not at risk of ending up in divorce court) and interested, she's not asking about the guy she's dating tire.

If your car fails off your Jack it means YOU messed up.
Parking brake on, block a tire and Jack from the Jack point.

CSB: I had a flat the other day just south of Jackson on 55. Having to crawl under the truck to get the spare and having 100 18 wheelers pass me going 75 without getting over is enough. I’ll never change a tire on the side of the road again. If I can’t get to a parking lot or somewhere safe, I’ll have roadside come do it. Not worth dying over.

Doesn't roadside assistance cover it? Meaning you have someone do it for free?

I carry triangles and flares makes me feel safer. I also keep an impact wrench in the car.

Being able to change a tire should be a requirement to get a license.
So should being able to actually drive.

One of our young engineers had a flat tire the other day. He called a tow truck to tow his vehicle to the nearest tire shop to ‘fix’ it.

True story. A number of years ago, me, the wife, wife's friend, and wife's friend's husband (no pics of women) were on a road trip to Florida. We were in friend's car and he's driving. Somewhere on I-10 in the panhandle, we blow a tire.
He freaks out. I'm like no big deal, let's just put the spare on and head to the next town. He says no, he doesn't want to change the spare himself, so he's gonna call AAA. I'm like, dude, I'll change it, this is really no big deal. Refuses to let me.
He calls AAA. 3 hour wait. Freaks out again, finally I'm like F it and pop open the trunk and start pulling out the spare and the tools. Dude starts crying. I'm like, no, we are changing this tire, come down here and let me show you how (since it was clear he had no idea). We get it changed and get on the way.
That night, wife tells me dude never really had a father figure in his life, was raised by a single mom, and I guess no one ever bothered to show him how to change a tire, and he was completely embarrassed.
It happens.

I'd say not just men, but should be a basic requirement for any adult. Man or woman, if you don't know how to change a tire then I seriously question your maturity.

It only takes one person not paying attention, though. I had to get towed a while back and the tow truck driver was telling me about how many of his fellow drivers have been killed in the 30 years he'd been driving. He said he comes relatively close to dying at least every couple months... to make 40k a year maybe.

Don't know what type of engineering you do, but my uncle is constantly complaining about the young engineers he works with, who can come up with great designs on the computer, but have no idea how to actually physically put anything together or fix anything.

Yes, and women.

robably don’t know how to use a can of. fix-a-flat.
If you are driving a car built after say 2005, fix a flat is a terrible idea. It will destroy the air pressure monitor system. Just put the damn spare on.

I feel changing a tire is pretty intuitive, though, especially on flat ground like that.

Crying over it is a far bigger issue than not knowing how to change a tire

Still together. But they moved to Oregon so we rarely see them anymore.
