re: Should smoking on a public beach be banned?

I don't think it should be banned, but if smokers can't properly dispose of their butts then go to smoker areas. I would love to see strict enforcement of littering in this regard. I think this has a greater effect on the beach than the smoke itself.

Smoking is disgusting.
But outside??!! They're outside! Walk away. Go play IN the water. Excessive to tell them they can't anywhere.

I previously posted a link to the cdc website. I'll post it here again. I'm sure you'll ignore any type of evidence or factual info like you did yesterday in the Entourage/Eli Manning thread. LINKYou then post a link which I thought may have some research or statistical data relevant to the conversation. My expectations were far too high. Instead it was a bull shite Penn and Teller youtube video. Please carry on
I read through it, and clicked on all their so-called "references". Their references are just anti-smoking brochures, and none of them have references to peer-reviewed studies to back up their claim. Without a peer-reviewed study to back up their claims, they are talking shite and doing pointless fear mongering.
And please tell me specifically a few of the 2.5 million people who were killed from second hand smoke. If there are 2.5 million of them, I don't think this would be difficult to do, but no one can point a single person out for me who was killed by it. Name a celebrity who died from it. Instead all they do is when someone who is living with a smoker dies of heart disease, then they blame it on the second hand smoke.

Smoking is banned at many beaches. Ban it all public places. Disgusting
Yeah, I forgot that the world revolves around JEAUXBLEAUX. Sorry if we've inconvenienced you.

The government should ban everything that anyone disagrees with for any reason. It'll be a better country.

CDC coordinates and promotes tobacco prevention and control activities with partners, including the American Cancer Society,......Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
The namesake is one of the founders of Johnson & Johnson.
The Foundation is the single largest shareholder in Johnson & Johnson.
Johnson & Johnson has a subsidiary company, ALZA.
What does ALZA do? Among other things it makes a little product called Nicoderm CQ.
The CDC and many other organizations receive grants and donations from the RWJF. So you see, one of their cash cows would REALLY love it if there were studies and papers written on how anything that has to do with smoking is bad.
Or, just continue to be a sheep and believe everything you read.

I don't mind people smoking on the beach, just throw your butts away in a trash can or something and don't litter.
It's why I avoided Daytona Beach when I lived in Jacksonville - each time I went the beach was like one giant ashtray with hundreds of cigarette butts everywhere

You're such a puss. Don't bring your kids to PCB in May. Its for the younger crowd around this time of year, if you didn't notice.
It's every beach. I went to GS this past weekend and it was the same way. It's disgusting and no one should have to smell your nasty arse cigs because you can't be bothered to kick your self mutilating habit.

This is quickly becoming my main beef with smokers. Why is it so universally accepted that butts can just be tossed about?
Every major intersection is covered in butts in BR.

You wanna ban all things that you consider disgusting?

And while we are on selfish rants, sunflower seed spitting should also be banned.
When I coach my kids soccer games, and these things are littered all over, it's fricking disgusting.

Panama City Beach
Been there twice. Absolutely zero desire to ever go again.
Smoking on the beach is no issue if the smokers take any mind to be thoughtful of others around them. I think your problem is that the crowd at Panama City Beach has a large contingent of those kind of persons who don't give a shite.
Posted on 5/29/15 at 9:59 am to ctiger69
Just don't litter. The smoke blows away quickly, not a biggie.

FWIW, if you want an essentially private beach for kids, just go to Pensacola, drive past Portofino for about 10 minutes, and pick a spot out there.
I've always found that to be a clean, a-hole-free zone for the family.
Alcohol is too far away for the douche crowd, and most are just too lazy to drive a little farther. If you park and walk for 10min, you'll have a truly private section.
