I think the data says each individual child is 70 times more likely to arrive at school safety riding the bus vs. being driven to school by a parent.

what if the bus driver is a parent?

Whose job is it to make sure the kids are wearing them?

This requires that the interior of large buses protect children without them needing to buckle up. Through compartmentalization, children are protected from crashes by strong, closely -spaced seats that have energy-absorbing seat backs.

Have you ridden in a school bus lately? I had to ride in one a few years back, adult me could barely squeeze in. I’m 5’10 about 185.

Seatbelts should have been in school busses for the last 40 years and why they aren’t is beyond me.

because you arent looking at all the issues, in an accident you need seat belts, any emergency other than an accident and you have kids strapped in unable to get out.

if a bus runs into a river or catches on fire. in those cases, seat belts not letting them escape is what would be what kills those kids

I think they should have those over the shoulder bars like they have on rollercoasters. That way the kids stay down and don’t move around.

Very young children might have trouble unfastening the seatbelt in an emergency.

Kids have to have all kinds of restraints and safety equipment, when riding in your personal vehicle. As soon as they get on the bus (4years old) and the state has to start paying for it, it's more than ok to just hop on and basically sit in a sofa style seat and hope for the best. I'm not saying what's right either way, but funny how things change when money has to be spent.

I don’t think so

The young men and women drivers are some of the best America has to offer. They are never under the influence, always cool calm and collective, and have no criminal records.

Child fatalities in school bus crashes, while tragic, are pretty rare. If a bus needs to be evacuated quickly, you don't need kids fiddling around with seatbelts trying to get out.

Not sure if any of you have kids, but by age 5 - they can unbuckle themselves in a heartbeat.

The thought that they all burn to death because they can’t figure out a lap belt is unrealistic.

In an emergency situation I would bet that numbers rises significantly especially when you multiply it by 40+ screaming kids.
