Should prisoners be allowed to go to funerals of loved ones/ visit dying immediate family?

I think they should be allowed to attend the funerals but if they committed murder they should not be allowed to visit dying relatives because their victim’s family never got to say goodbye. What says the OT on this topic?

Not sure how this works, but once went to the funeral of our long time housekeeper/babysitter. The DOC brought one of her sons in to the funeral in his prison whites. Took him away right after.

Prisoners that show a desire to be successfully reintegrate into society should be given the chance to do so and things like this would help in that regard.
Those who are habitual offenders should not.

No because it would cost taxpayers more money.

Non-violent offenders with the exception of pedophiles should be allowed to do so if they have good behavior and it's a close family member. None of that Fourth cousin twice removed bullshite.

You can attend funerals if the warden allows it. It is a case by case procedure. You have to wear prison garb and have your wrists, ankles, and waist shackled.

Depends why they're in jail.
Brother was in for slinging weed at one point in time and got to come to our Dad's funeral. Very happy he got to be there.
Anything serious...Murder or Rape, etc..Frick that

yes, sure. Let them stop and grab a bite to eat on the way back in! Might as well.

I don't like going to funerals in the first place. when I go it's for the family not the person who died, so showing up in an orange suit and handcuffs doesn't help anyone. Personally I wouldn't go, but depending on how close the family member was they should be able to.

No. You forfeited that right when you did whatever it was that was bad enough to get you incarcerated.

The town of walker has court once a month. If you don't have $1000-1500 or $300 for a bail bondsman, you could sit in jail for a month over an outstanding parking ticket.

I don’t know about murderers. But my uncle died about 8 years ago and one of his trashy grand sons was in prison at the time. Guards brought him to the funeral home in shackles and cuffs.

Perfectly stated

I’m fine with it. Family needs to pay transport costs for prisoner and guards.

The warden wouldn't let Cool Hand Luke attend Luke's mothers funeral, so NO.
