This. We keep voting for people who I’d be nervous about being behind the wheel of a car.

By this requirement, Hunter Biden would be a better choice than Trump. Think about that.
His discharge deletes his service

going back to dubya, all of our presidents, and most of their elder staff, were more or less draft dodgers, I think that's why it's so easy for them to send kids to die
Obama was 12 when the draft was abolished.

Is this the same military promoting trannys?
No
No

I would have agreed with that before JBE became governor.

Given thee shitty performance of us military leadership, that's a firm NO
Posted on 8/20/21 at 1:05 pm to LSUBFA83
I'd actually say no. They have some huge dinguses in the military that have no business leading a kitchen let alone a country.

There's a tendency by members of the public who haven't served to put the military on a pedestal. Military service is an honorable profession but military people can be just as full of shite as anybody else. Some of our best presidents have been veterans , as well as some of our worst. Whether you like him or not, Lincoln was the greatest wartime president and his military service consisted of a very brief, undistinguished stint in the state militia.

will probably get you a few downvotes but this a valid and rarely stated fact

Yes and yes. People in this country are too detached from the military and need to be re-introduced to what it means to defend the Constitution.

I wouldn't be against some kind of requirement or at least a recommendation for presidential candidates to "embed" with a military group the same way journalists do. It's a damn shame that some journalists have a better working understanding of our military than some of our political leaders.
Even if they have no direct experience, politicians should surround themselves with trusted military advisors. But too many times they either ignore advise or choose their advisors for purely political reasons.

I should have pulled a trump and faked a bone spur to get out of my tour in Vietnam . Wasn't a fun place to be .

FWIW many of our founders would be aghast at this proposal, Washington and Jefferson in particular. They wouldn't much like our large standing military, although may grudgingly acceptthat the world situation makes it necessary

The President is the Commander in Chief. Why shouldn't the leader of our Armed Forces be involved with military strategy and planning?

The founders were very clear that civilians should be in charge. They saw military juntas as one of the biggest threats to the existence of the republic.
