Old Metairie is better in every way compared to Lakeview.

Less taxes, better roads, many more trees, cheaper water that doesn't always require boiled water advisories, more aesthetically appealing, almost no crime. Can be to the superdome/quarter or riverbend or mid city in 5-10 minutes.

Yes, houses are cheaper in Lakeview compared to OM, but higher taxes offset that.

I understand wanting to live uptown or even mid city, but Lakeview is like living in the suburbs without the perks of living in the suburbs.

Old Metairie has all the perks of the suburbs without much of the downsides. My commute in the morning is exactly 6 minutes to the Supdome exit. I have over a dozen full grown trees on my lot and most of my neighbors have many too.

old Gretna is safe and nice. The river side of hwy 90. It’s 5 - 10 minutes from downtown and the quarter and easy to commute to uptown. It’s better than living in 80% of New Orleans.

the closing of the Jackson Ferry really messed up the livability in Old Gretna. I used to Love taking the ferry over to old gretna back in the day.

But old gretna is still very underrated

Id rather live on the point or English Turn than Old Gretna. That's two areas and I haven't even left the westbank.

You had me until this...

Also, it's a nice area that would be a great edition to the best parish in the state.

It's really neither of those things. It's a slightly trashier version of any given neighborhood in Texas. Strip malls and one story brick tract housing built in the 60s, as far as the eye can see. Almost no trees as well. It was mostly all farmland not forest so it wasn't really a good place to start to build beautiful neighborhoods. It's why St. Tammany is much better aesthetically

Disagree.

It has the (relatively) low crime rate and community ‘feel’ of a suburb- WITHOUT the soul-sucking 45 min to 1.5 hr commute of a place like Mandeville or Slidell.

Yep.
If I could afford it, I would want to live within a block or two of Harrison. That area is pretty cool.

if you’re not in walking distance to Harrison though, buck town is better in almost every conceivable metric. Just as convenient with cheaper houses, lower taxes and not run by NOLA

Meh, there are still quite a few trash apartments and rental houses on and around Lake Avenue and that damn corner gas station and the bar across the street shitholes.

I like where I live closer to Bonnabel.

How is this any different than the apartments on fleur de lis, and the bars and gas stations down west Harrison?

west Harrison?

Sorry, I should have specified I would really like east Harrison.

I do have a friend who built what is now about a $800K house on the west side and it seems like the area has been improving.
Nothing wrong with grabbing a drink at the Basin either.

I wish but it'll never happen. NOLA isn't gonna let one of their highest tax base leave them.
