The Bucktown area of Old Metairie

A friend of mine lives over there and seems nice. You are close to orleans still, not far from interstate if you need to get out, and people run and walk the lake levee.

If I had a family I just wouldn’t take that job.

The commute from anywhere is going to suck because there is a lot of water. The metro area of Nola is not like any of the other southern cities.

And what’s most likely going to happen is the people there will just elect an even shittier mayor and your tax money would be better used as kindling.

Chalmette is the best in the stste. Only 15 minutes from Tulane. Must put up with bad jokes about Chalmette like what does a Chalmette woman put behind her ears to attract men??? Her ankles.

If it were me, I would look in the Harahan area. Very safe, nice homes, only 15 minutes from Tulane down River Rd to St Charles Avenue. St Rita is a great Catholic Parish and grammar school. Sinister Playground is top tier for kids to play ball. Mississippi River Levee is there for running, walking, bike riding, sliding down on cardboard when it snows. No flooding. Has its own police department with quick response. Own Mayor too. Friendly people too. Close to Elmwood which has everything available. No hookers or homeless. Check it out. I know a really good real estate agent if you need one.

That was during the last millennium. Harahan got the pumps now. Google 10 best cities to live in Louisiana per the FBI and census and Harahan comes in at number 1.

I lived there for a while

I never said it wasn’t a good place to live, I was just saying it could flood again

Maybe if you get a good tip at the FG, you can move out to Harahan.

I would rent first while you educate yourselves sbout where you want to live. Willow School is a great option for Tulane employees with families, but there are other Orleans public schools to consider, such as Audubon, Hynes and International School.

That was before the pump to the river project was finally completed.

I was told around Tulane (uptown, garden district) is not that bad.

I’m a real estate agent and pretty much tell my clients this when they want to look in Orleans and are coming from a different area.

I live in Metairie and may be biased, but there is literally 0 reason to live in the city. No matter how desirable the area, it boils down this:
1. Property taxes are sky high, not only that, but you don’t get Jack shite for them. City services (water issues, broken pipes that are the cities responsibility) are nearly non-existent. You’ll wait weeks for anything to get fixed, if it at all.

Jefferson parish will have them fixed within a day.

You need police, in Orleans you’ll wait several hrs at best, days at worst. A garbage truck hit and ran my wife’s car 2 weeks ago in Jefferson. I called for police, told them it was a non-emergency and someone was at my house in 10 minutes.

2. Insurance is high….even higher than the surrounding areas.
3. Basic services such as water is nearly double than that in Jefferson and they only pick up garbage once a week.

I’d go with the eastern part of Metairie, convenient to pretty much everything.

If you’re looking for an agent, let me know and i’ll drop my email.

How do you know all this if you live in Metairie?

Plus you work for Keller Williams.

I didn’t even know that company still existed
