Meh. The vast majority of jobs no longer require suits on a daily or even weekly basis. That being said, I generally think a man should own at least one.

Every man needs a dark navy suit.
If you don't wear a suit often then go to Jos. A Banks.
If you are in a bind and looking to spend only $100, you can go with suit separates from Belk. Just be sure your jacket shows proper cuff and your pants aren't a full break or more.

Dillards. You can get good stuff when they have sales.

The MBA in me says yes...
The self employed adult in me says it really depends on your industry and stage of life. A must for white collar professionals or if you find yourself at numerous formal events or weddings.
The happiest day of my life was donating my suits and dress shoes to Goodwill a year ago. The next suit I wear will hopefully be in my casket.

If I only wore a suit once in a while I would hit the Banana Republic Outlet. You can catch them there for under 300. But a $300 suit is a really cheap suit and wont hold up if worn day in day out.

He's not talking about wearing one in a professional setting you morons. Yes, every man should own a suit. There are events in life that you have to wear a suit to. Go to Steinmart if you want to be a cheapo about it.

Keep your eye out for sales at J.C.Penney. They sell their own Stafford line which is pretty underrated, and more classically tailored. They also sell Claiborne which are nice and just edgy enough to be fashionable as well as having style.
They go on sale, often at ridiculously low prices, and you can purchase as separates so you can get something that fits which may only require sleeve alterations and hems in the trousers.

I am a career white collar worker. I attend the normal number of wedding and social events as any upper middle class individual. I haven't owned a suit in over 20 years and probably over 30 years. I am able to wear a dress shirt or nice polo to work. When I go to a wedding or funeral its either a sports coat or no coat. I would guess I wear a tie 3 times a year.

Go to Beijing and find a tailor named Jin. He's made most of my suits and they're great.[/quote
Or, go to Hong Kong and find a guy named Daniel.
He does great work and good bang for the buck...

Yes; shop at K&G if you're only going to wear it sparingly.

Or fly to Lake Como in Italy and find Mauricio as he makes a great suit.

Show some respect.
Also, it doesn't cost a ton of money to dress in a proper manner.
