And here we go. The thread is no longer about the event and any breaking news.

At this point, we're an hour into it, the shooter is in custody, Scalise is stable, and no news has come out about any other victim's condition. We're kinda at a standstill.

Bottom line is, I can't believe there isn't more security out there. Yeesh.

Why? They don't have protection on a day to day basis when they aren't on the Hill.

I want to know if Scalise was targeted in particular or just Reps and they happened to get the Whip. If Scalise in particular, I wonder if it has anything to do with Alton Brown's birthday.

Per reps that were there, Scalise was at 2nd base. The shooter was behind 3rd base dugout, had to pass several other people to shoot him first.

some of you are pretty gross. i'm not a republican, i hate the guy's politics, i've met him in a semi-intimate setting and was terrified at how uninformed and simple he was and yet....

i'm horrified that he's been shot, i'm glad he's stable and appears to be ok, and i hate that a person has been attacked APPARENTLY due to his political leanings. not every fricking thing needs to be political.

exactly, if this was the case 25% of DC's general pop would be composed of personal security

I'm not arguing that all reps should have security, but there are 535 members of Congress and 6 million people in DC metro.

I could see them detailing extra security for an event like this that's away from the Capitol and has a bunch of members in one place

Most of the burbs in Maryland and Nova surrounding the D.C. Are some of the wealthiest zip codes in the US.

So a middle aged white man tried to take out the entire Republican congress?

Now that's a terrorist

You obviously don't know DC gun laws. It's very difficult to get a permit and even then the restrictions that are in place pretty much prohibit carrying a firearm in the city.

Of course, this is if you are a law abiding citizen.

Yep. Fairfax and Loundon county in NOVA are always #1 and #2 in terms of wealthiest counties. They have been for at least the past 10 years

Why do we need stricter gun laws? Pretty sure if you're willing to open fire in public, you don't care about laws

Probably bc of the generalized blaming, when this was one person who is fricking crazy. Normal people (liberal, Republican, independent) don't just go around killing each other.

Literally? Do you know what that word means? I think you meant to say "arguably."
