From what is being reported they are looking for a suspect, but they did not officially release the cause.
Something is definitely going down, I passed by the airport road about an hour ago and there was a ton of cops from LPSO, Thibodaux, state police, and event Grand Isle positioned at the entrance to the road waiting for something. A few streets over, the fire engines and ambulances were stationed at a fire station waiting on a call to head to the scene.
If it was clear and no danger would be present, there would not be that many assets pooled waiting to proceed.

Lafourche Parish Sherrifs office says no active shooter
The 50 cars heading down the bayou and the people down the airport road hearing 20 rounds go off says different

There's a really important infrastructure right by that airport. If they even thought for a second that gun shots were in that vicinity, I'd expect a large police presence.

Here what Port Fourchon posted an hour or two ago on Facebook:
Suspect(s) Still At Large After Shooting Incident at South Lafourche Leonard J. Miller, Jr. Airport
Port Fourchon Harbor Police Chief Mike Kinler would like to report on an incident that occurred at the South Lafourche Airport in Galliano on Thursday evening.
At 6:29 p.m. a call was received by 9-1-1 from a male victim standing outside Chevron saying he was being shot at.
The Harbor Police Department arrived one minute later after which more shots were fired in the general direction of several vehicles including near where the Harbor Police officer was positioned. The shots came from the wooded area on the west side of the airport.
A call for backup was then made, which in turn led to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office arriving at the scene to assist in trying to locate the suspect(s). Quickly thereafter, the responding units attempted to set up a perimeter as a second volley of rounds were shot from the wooded area.
No one was injured, but the suspect(s) is/are still at-large, as it is assumed the suspect(s) fled on foot into the woods. No motive is known at this time.
Pending charges related to this incident include attempted murder if a police officer and illegal use of a firearm.
If anyone possesses any information about the suspect(s), they are asked to contact the Harbor Police Department at (985) 396-3911.

I know that is the confusing part of this.
LPSO was saying:
After Harbor Patrol was:
The Harbor Police Chief did comment why the LPSO statement was correct:
Please allow me to explain why the LPSO alert, released at 7:53pm, was truthful and accurate.
As you are aware the incident occurred at 6:29, almost an hour and a half prior to its release. We were unable to release any information at that time, as these situations are ongoing and ever changing. By the time we were able to answer the calls about what was going on, the danger was over. At that point we had the area secure, a large police presence and, with all of the information we gathered, there was nothing to lead anyone to believe that there was an imminent threat to the public. So at that time it was only a search in a wooded area for a suspect. There was no one actively firing a gun at that time. It is also important to note that “active shooter”, in today’s world, has a much different meaning to most people, and this certainly wasn’t one of those situations. We wanted to make that clear to stop any false rumors.
It is our goal to remain as transparent as possible while maintaining the sanctity of our investigations. I can assure you that if there is ever a situation where it warrants a lock-down or warning to those who might be in danger we would give that warning straight away, without hesitation.
I hope this helps everyone understand that there is no more danger to the public at this moment than you face anytime you leave your house.
Thankfully our officer and the citizens at the airport were unharmed and the search ended without incident.

Both of things can be happening at the same time. Cops have been known to overreact

Update from Greater Lafourche Port Commission Harbor Patrol:
UPDATE: Three Men Arrested for Illegal Use of Firearm for Thursday Night Incident Near Airport
Port Fourchon Harbor Police Chief Mike Kinler announced the arrest of three men in connection with Thursday night’s incident at the South Lafourche Airport. Ernest Richoux, 44, of Galliano, Bryant Guidry, 40, of Houma, and Warren Bourque, 48, of Kaplan were charged with illegal use of weapons in the incident. There were no injuries in the incident.
At around 6:30 p.m. on April 6, 2023, Harbor Police officers responded to a 911 call from a man who said he was being shot at while standing in a parking area at the airport. Officers arrived within one minute, and as they exited their vehicles, several rounds passed over and around their vehicles. Believing they were being targeted, officers called for backup and additional officers and deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the area. They established a perimeter in an effort to confine and locate any potential suspects. At that time, the rounds had ceased, and there was no longer an active threat. After several hours of searching, no suspects could be located, and officers found no evidence of an apparent motive or that officers had been targeted at that time.
On Friday morning, April 7, officers received a tip identifying Richoux as a possible suspect in the incident. Through further investigation, officers learned Richoux, Guidry and Bourque were shooting a .223 rifle and four handguns at targets in the direction of the airport with no backstop behind the targets to prevent projectiles from traveling long distances. All three suspects were located and cooperated with investigators. Based on interviews with the suspects and evidence found at the scene, investigators determined the three men had no intention of firing upon anyone or any vehicles, but were negligent in their actions.
Richoux, Guidry, and Bourque were all arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. They were charged with one count each of illegal use of a firearm. Bail has not yet been set. Per Act 494, mug shots cannot be released.

How incredibly stupid are the three middle aged men? That’s the kind of shite you’d expect some dumb kid to do. I sincerely hope the judge hangs the max penalty and charges on each one of them.
