The cherry picking of statistics is extremely frustrating.

Agreed. There really needs to be multiple categories.

Gang-related "mass" shootings are completely different from Las Vegas, yet they're grouped together.

Your point about school shootings is correct too. 22 school shootings this year only focuses on the location of the shooting, which is a small piece of the puzzle. Santa Fe and Parkland are much different than a janitor shooting his superior while in the school parking lot.

Just out of curiosity, how do you think we should go about gun control?

Typical pearl-clutching, poorly educated, low-info LW sky screamer. And you wonder why gun-control advocacy is a miserable failure.

Shouldn’t a kid wearing a trench coat to a school in south Texas in mid-May been seen as suspicious?

No suspicious on the on its face, but the Nazi medals and "Born to Kill" t short should have had the alarms going off.

Looks like he was inspired by the animals who shot up Columbine. They wore trench coats, minus the Nazi symbols and planted bombs in the school that didn't detonate

No. 20 year school teacher. This is not normal. We didn’t use to have to do active shooter drills constantly. The environment has changed...dramatically. What’s happening has deeper roots than whatever political flavor that you root for.

I don’t shoot or own a gun. I don’t care about politics. Try again?

Someone who is capable of killing multiple people thinks the military is the place for them. I know that's not why the vast majority join, but it's understandable why someone like this would want to align with the military.

I don't get it. If I'm a superintendent or architect, their is no mf way someone will be able to get a firearm inside a school. How in the hell is someone able to walk (or even shoot his way) into a school in 2018 with a shotgun?

How are you going to do that?

A school needs multiple exit points. You could obviously lock the exit points such that you can only exit the building from them, but many high schools have classrooms in multiple buildings and students need to be able to get to one building from another in between classes.

One entry point makes sense if the school is entirely contained within a single building, but there are many schools that are not configured this way.

Enclose them like prisons.. with big arse inexpensive around the property line. put little fireplug stumps every few feet to stop vehicles.

New schools are to be built more like government buildings or the Pentagon for example.

Then they'll just shoot up malls or more public events.

Hopeless.
