It was Sears Roebuck when I was a kid. Friends in the neighborhood dad sold appliances at Sears his whole adult life and raised three good kids who had as much as anyone else in solid middle class.

Think a millennial could do that?

Yes but most never would as a job like that is mostly beneath them.

Ethically it’s a shite thing to do but financially he will make bank. This guy ranks right up there with the Waltons and the Sacklers.

I would say more the Sacklers than the Waltons.

I would have thought the self-dealing would have been illegal, but apparently not.

When was that? I vaguely remember as a kid them having a random game setup like that in the store we went to. They didn't have many games as the years went on iirc.

That pic is late 80s/early 90s but they still had a similar setup in the late 90s at my local Sears. They had $10 off coupons in EGM and Gamepro.

The money will be made selling off the Craftsman and Kenmore product lines/names - unless that's already done.

There is nothing left on that carcass.

They’ve already sold off the Craftsman line. I see it at Lowe’s now.

Is the parent company making any money off that, that's my question - have they already sold off or just licensed. Big difference.

Sears doesn’t offer Craftsman any longer is how I understand it so that leads me to believe it has been sold and is not licensed.

ETA:

It appears you can get Craftsman online from Sears, but not in stores. Interesting.

It was essentially a sale.

They sold them to Stanley Black and Decker about 3 years ago. They got 500 million upfront and another 250 million is due very soon. They also got a percentage of Craftsman sales for 15 years.

Craftsman quality has gone up and down for years, they move production around all the time and often bring parts of the line back to the US. I haven't kept up with exactly what parts of their line are still good since the move because of 90% of the mechanics hand tools I buy are German now.

Bezos trolling Sears hard. Just got an Amazon Christmas toy catalog in the mail today. Like the old Sears Wish Book.

Sears and KMart just need to open more Orange Julius’s in their stores if they want to draw in more customers

a rare from me upvote for you

and on topic, I really was shocked there are that many stores left. I remember going to the super kmart in baton rouge when i moved there. i was 18, and I remember thinking "wow, this is a bigger shitier version of the piece of shite kmart back home"

and the Kmart on vets in metairie, (or maybe kenner) --complete trash, from employees to merchandise
