Alright this is a shot in the dark but I really don't know where to start otherwise:

For our 5 year wedding anniversary (the theme is wood), the Mrs and I are giving each other a massive slab of petrified wood which we will turn into a coffee table. The piece we want is in Europe and is approximately 47"x35" and weighs in excess of 400#.

The cheapest and most reliable shipping option is via ship to either the Port of Houston or the Port of New Orleans and then arrange ground transportation from there. This is where I'm lost.

The seller is arranging to get it to the US, but then it's up to me from there to get it to OKC.

Does anyone have a contact who provides this type of service or have you ever had something like this done for you? I just don't even know how to look this kind of thing up. Maybe a courier service? Anyway, I figured it was worth a shot on the OT. Thanks.

5 years and you're flying a 400# block of wood in from Europe? Geeze!

I would guess a hot shot or motor freight of some type, but regardless of which you go with, it's going to be expensive as hell.

Cheetah hot shot service in Houston

Red Stick if New Orleans

Use both in my business, not cheap but it is a dedicated truck only carrying your shite. Estimated is $1700 to make the trip. Less if they can pick up something else on the way home. Paying for dead head driving sucks.

Fed Ex ground or less than truckload. They handle golf bags and large film equipment, so why not a heavy log? Dad's business uses them all the time, and also some trucking company.

The shipper is getting it through customs, I just have to go pick it up when it's ready and get it to OKC.

Saia Motor Freight or AAA Cooper. It will take 3-4 days but will save you over $1000.00 compared to using a hotshot.

I'll do it for $1200. I've been a truck driver for 22 years. I live in Shreveport and can pick it up and deliver it to you in OKC. Email me if you're interested--kberrylsu72@gmail.com
