Understood. Just saying sometimes shingles is misdiagnosed.

Agreed. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Uncle was on his last leg, pretty much stuck in a bed for the last months of his life, and got shingles in his neck and entire left side of his face. It was disturbing how much pain he was in.

Went into work one morning last year and within 30 minutes I was in absolute pain. My right foot, or should say my toes got it. I was limping into the emergency room at Madigan Army Medical Center in tears; it was that excruciating. Just a small rash on my toes but the virus latches onto your nervous system.
I was on crutches for almost a week and had to deal with two subsequent flare ups over the next couple of months. Both times put me back on crutches.
The worst pain I've felt in my life.

How does one get shingles?
I'm fighting off a case of tinea versicolor at the moment. shite doesn't hurt but looks ridiculous on arms and wrists. Any OT remedies to get rid of t.v.?

Chicken pox. If you got it as a kid you carry the virus, which could flare up at any time or not.

I had it for the last 12 days. It's pretty much gone now.just finished meds yesterday. 4 or 5 spots on my forehead and right eye. Got a steroid shot , valtrex,& lyrica. Head to stop taking the lyrica . Too drowsy , couldn't stay awake.
I hope I never have to deal with it again

I feel your pain. Had it on my face in 2009. Ouch! Really strange how it follows the nerve path. Doctor told me that if it a lesion shows up on the tip of your nose, you will probably get it in your eye. If it goes down the side of your nose, you will not because the eye and the tip of the nose are in the same nerve path but the side of the nose is in a different one.

So why do you have to be 60 to get the vaccination shot?
Posted on 5/19/15 at 6:46 am to Nolalakeview
Yes. Twice in last 15 years.
Very unpleasant.

I had it about a year ago. I went from having a strep throat, to bad kidney stones to shingles all in 3 weeks.
Shingled went from center line of chest down to belly button around my left side to the center of my back. I never had the rash but the sensitive skin / severe sunburn feeling was terrible.

Got it in college. Was not as bad as some people, and I didn't take care of it right away. Went to LSU student medical center and they gave me a script. Went away relatively fast after that.

I just got over shingles. Scab marks are still visible but fading. My perspective for pain is a little different than most people's though. I live with chronic pain due to major nerve damage in my lower spine through the right leg from two bouts with cancer and the treatments. Five years ago, I would have described the pain as bad. Now, it is just another source of pain that is a part of my reality.

Wow, I was surprised when I saw this thread this morning as I am just getting over Shingles myself. I didn't know what it was until a family friend diagnosed it for me and sure enough, she ended up being right. Mine wasn't too bad. It just felt like fiberglass in my skin wrapping around the right side of my chest. I decided to just "tough it out" and I did fine.
This past weekend, a friend of mine sent me a text saying I gave her the Shingles...which is not possible as I haven't seen her in a few weeks. I guess I didn't realize how common it was.
