I'd say the same thing if I were investing a billion dollars a year in wind farms and renewables
I imagine their interest in renewables pales greatly in comparison to petroleum.

They could work on alternative fuel sources and hire people there. And then corner that market.
If they made an f350 that rolled on actual coal id buy it

The hubris of these executives to declare things have changed permanently. Sounds eerily familiar to the dot com stock bubble in 1999-2000.
Commodity supply and demand are a bit easier to predict and its harder to predict new finds. We know for a fact what we have and what we can produce. Demand is a little bit trickier, unless
A) A war breaks out
B) The US creates a government regulated amount of oil production(can't see that happening)
There just isn't some magic bullet for liquids demand. There is more uncertainty on how low prices will go more than how high it will go.
Also this doesn't pertain to NG, which demand will be growing rapidly with numerous LNG export terminals opening up.

It just means they got caught off guard by how low prices got and for how long. Next time they will be able to handle much lower prices.

Will be impossible. Sit in the passenger seat and drink up. They will have to find something else to make revenue off of and they will.

It's officially time to buy Energy stocks.

For all those proponents of the fallacy that the government should be "investing" in renewable energy, this right here is where it will actually come from.
With a constant low price of oil, Shell and other oil companies will lead a privatized effort into renewable energy and find a way to make it work and make it profitable.
You make it sound as if we already have the answers and we are just deciding not to use this technology hidden away because the "evil oil companies" want to make profits.
Just because they invest money into it doesn't mean they're going to come up with anything significant.

Yeah, maybe in 50 years. How many self-driving cars do you see on the road today?

In California and Oregon there are a few.

It is a myth that there are alternative sources of energy. There are ADDITIONAL sources, but NO alternatives.
Soundbite phrase that is tired and worn out.

This is good news for consumers who were gouged for years by artificially high oil prices.

Bigwheel,
Top fuel dragster?.
If you get the right transmission, you can rocket off the line on up to interstate speed.
Tesla S did 0 to 60 in 2.28.
