Question for the Energy Industry baws. Are these fields/platfoms serviced out of Fourchon?

And where are these “offshored” employees from?

Just curious.

From my experience, I’d say most are serviced from Fourchon, but some platforms in the western GoM are serviced out of Galveston.

Been a long time since I was out there, but Perdido (which is very close to the new facility) was supplied out of C-Port in Fourchon. Crew flights were out of Galveston. Even from Galveston it’s damn near a 2 hour flight.

Employees are from all over. Mostly south Louisiana and Texas, but also Mississippi. When you get into the eastern GoM you see more guys from Mississippi and less from Texas, due to the commute. South LA folks are pretty much everywhere.

That said, I’ve also met people from other states like Colorado who fly into TX/LA for crew change. Theoretically you can live wherever, it’s just that the added travel time eats into your days off.

Perdido is an engineering marvel.

And a science experiment.

For better or worse, that place will probably be one-of-a-kind forever. I wonder if they are using any of the unique Perdido methods (like subsea separation) in the Whale field.

Guess Trump will sell some overpriced maps to his followers with it renamed. I always admire his ingenuity when it comes to product endorsement

Wait till hurricane season when the NHC starts using Gulf of America in hurricane advisories. If they don’t, Trump may just take a sharpie and do this again:

In about two years 60-70% of Chevron’s employees will be offshore.

There are many Asian young(er) men staying in some of the cheaper hotels near the airport in Lafayette, and I was wondering if they were international oilfield service employees, maybe getting shuttled to Lafayette for some days off by PHI.

Maybe not on your maps. But will be renamed in our hearts.

Older maps of the Mississippi River had the "N" word used at a certain point. A place real close to BTR. The change was made. This tells the story.

You still need the same number of POB to run the platform.

A lot of galley hands offshore (the people who cook, clean, do laundry, etc.) are Filipinos. That could very well be what you’re seeing.

You do run into some people from different countries on the drilling and production sides as well, but it’s mostly people who have immigrated here (or whose parents immigrated here) rather than true “international” employees who live in another country.

When you get into the more “marine” side of things it’s more multinational. Especially on the specialty construction/dive ships. I’ve heard there are a lot of Norwegians on those ships. I’ve also heard it’s different on FPSO’s but can’t confirm as I’ve never worked on one. As far as your standard production platforms, the vast majority are Americans from the gulf coast.

Of course you also have guys doing paint/scaffold/insulation/etc. who are largely Latino, much like in “on-shore” industrial construction.

I disagree bc u still have a staff to run the platform. You still have an OIM and others. There is a set number of ppl that shell will use to run that platform. Your POB will change based upon construction and paint crews and other needs but u will always have a set number that run the platform.

I am a shell contractor for construction and I visit platforms all the time and I have been on several platform builds including Appomattox. Appomattox was supposed to be the design of the future but there was a bust while building it. Vito, Whale and Sparta are all based upon the Appo hull design and they pulled back to fit the times we are in right now. They plan on adding on to all three of those platforms in the future to make them close to the same size as Appo.
