Been listening to this for the past hour or so. Its uncut footage of an interview between Ken Burns and Shelby Foote for the Civil War doc.

Burns throwing out questions, and Foote spitting out knowledge off the cuff. Very knowledgeable. Enjoyable to listen to.

Shelby Foote, sadly, is seen as a relic on modern campuses.

I’ll definitely give this a listen- I am in the middle of “Bust Hell Wide Open” (Nathan Bedford Forrest). Mind blowing the amount of balls these men had.

Foote's 2 year agreement to write about the Civil Was carried on for a lifetime.
The interviews with Burns caused a large uptick in the sale of his books.
He was an amazing wealth of knowledge and understanding on that subject.

Somewhat related:
The reading of the Sullivan Ballou letter in Burns' series really gets to me.

Foote’s grandfather owned Mount Holly mansion after the civil war in Foote, Ms on lake Washington.

I posted this house in a thread other day about exploring abandoned places. It’s haunted as frick I don’t care what people say. Weird shite happened when i went in there.

Unfortunately that gorgeous home burned a few years ago so only the bricks are left

I remember watching the Ken Burns Civil War doc in high school history class. Everybody complained at first but by the end everybody was so into it. We even watched Gods and Generals and Gettysburg after that.

I would think cousin* Shelby’s phone would look like this:

My favorite Foote quote was when he was being interviewed after the Burns doc had sparked a renewed interest in his books.

The interviewer asked him about his writing habits. He explained he generally slept in most mornings, would have a late breakfast, and would write for a few hours in the afternoon. The interviewer said, “don’t you ever do any of your writing in the evenings?”

Foote smiled and replied, “Oh, no. The evening is always reserved for my drinking.”
