Pleurisy has been mentioned. The pain is awful, and I'm pretty damn pain tolerant.

Does it hurt with a deep breath? I had pleurisy once and it hurt bad with a deep breath.

I went to doctor today, who recommended a cat scan. It is hopefully going to be set for tomorrow (insurance company being difficult).

Have you ever had shingles? Sometimes it can cause a nerve irritation in the flank area that can linger for a while even after the episode is over. Other viruses can irritate subcutaneous nerves as well.

If you’ve eliminated most serious possibilities, it could be costochondritis. It took me years to get over it.

I wouldn't wish shingles on anyone. I had it just below shoulder blade area, spine to sternum. It hurts to sit still.

Sounds like pancreatitis. I've had it seven times in the past year with two of those being in ICU. They finally found gallstones being the cause and recommend taking it out. They told me this three months ago. But had to get cleared by my cardiologist but that was a two month wait. Now because of the holidays, he still hasn't sent the clearance to the gi specialist.

One of the ICU was while waiting on the cardiologist to run test. The worst attack was the first one. Kept me for two weeks and was touch and go for a few days. If I were you, get this checked out as soon as you can. Good luck

He would be in an ED or morgue at this point.

One more thing I forgot. They had to do a endoscopy to find the gall stone blockage.

That's only one half of the ol' at-home test. The other half is doing the same thing to the other side of your body and hoping for the same feeling.
