The old company I worked for did this. I had to share a room for a week with someone I never met. It ended up being fine but it's pretty shitty of a company to do that. Good chance you work for that company.

The company I work for does this - it's usually about 3-4 times per year - but yeah I don't care for it

My company does this for training as well if you're below a certain level. It's ridiculous. What's funny is it's a highly reputable organization that's always ranked well on those "top 100 places to work" lists.

How old are you?
I've stayed in hostels in Europe with strangers but I was early 20's.
As a 30 year old I would not do this.
