When I was in either the 2nd Grade (early 1976) or the 3rd Grade (early 1977) there was a hard freeze. There was about 3-4 foot wide shallow, drainage ditch in which there was about 2 inches of ice. I wore some cowboy boots to slide down the ditch. My classmates showed up at school the next day in boots wanting to compete with each other.

Man, that was a cold snap. I remember my brother and I were walking to school and a guy was trying to get the ice off his windshield with a pot of hot water and seeing the windshield split in a couple of places after he poured the water.

In the 1st Grade,a girl from the Jr. High School across the street would take us outside for P.E.

At the end of P.E. all the boys would line up and kiss her on the cheek.

That was 1966.They'd arrest the girl for doing that now a days.

Another one:

Riding on the Huey P. Long in the back of a passenger van for summer day camp.

Large kid next to me wasn't feeling the heat and vertigo from going up the bridge and stop and go traffic on it.

Kid proceeds to vomit over everyone in the back seat including myself.

I have no idea what the warm liquid with chunks of food in it until a few seconds later.

We had to wait from the peak of the bridge to the bottom to be able to pull over and let the kids out and get sorta cleaned up.

When I was about 6-7 we went to Mr. Dupre's camp in Cocodrie. My older brother caught a hard head catfish and just left it on the dock to bake in the sun. About an hour later I got a bucket and put some water in it. I put the dried up catfish in the bucket and was moving it about. All of the sudden the catfish came to life jumped out of my hands and stuck me straight in my breast bone. That was the most painful thing I ever been through, broken bones included. My mom cooked me a SPAM spaghetti and I felt better a few hours later.

My cat, Snowball, liked to sleep on top of car tires up in the wheel well. One morning when I was be taken to kindergarten, Snowball must have been deep-sleeping or my mom pulled out faster than usual and Snowball got squished.

I'll never forget looking under the car and seeing both of Snowball's eyes popped out. My poor mom was wrecked and had to call my dad home from work so he could scrape Snowball up with a shovel and bury the mess. He wasn't too happy about that.

One more: When I was around 11 I was feeling ill one night and I decided to sleep in the guest bedroom. I woke feeling really nauseous and was on my back. All of a sudden, I threw up and ensued a vomit volcano. I had not moved in time and it fell right onto my face.

Wiped off what I could and crawled to the bathroom to finish puking and clean up my face.

They were freshly paving the street. It looked very smooth, so I decided to get my bike and try it out. Problem was, it was still soft and extremely HOT cause the steam roller just passed on it.
My tire got stuck and I fell on my hands and knees onto the hot tar.
Three things I remember from that.

1) how hot the tar was that stuck to my hands and knees

2) my dad locking me out the house in the back yard to let me scream and cry outside.

3) my sister having to hand feed me for days because my hands were all bandaged up.

I grew up in Hickory Ridge subdivision in the late 80s/early 90s.
One day over summer brea someone landed a hot air balloon in the neighborhood & all the kids were invited to ride in the basket up & down, about 100 feet.
Started out with about 10 kids on bikes in the area & soon enough there were over 100 of the neighborhood kids within an hour.

Ended up being a great summer with all the kids meeting each other & riding bikes, hanging out, & playing sports in the open fields & big back yards. I miss living there.

My buddy and i were digging a hole in the neighbors yard. My friends older sister (no pics) told us if we dug too deep we would find the devil. Scared the hell out of us.

Friend and I are playing outside, his sister is aggravating us to no end.He yells at her to go away she starts crying with a big huge snot mustache. We started laughing and pointing at her then she licks up the whole thing. We simultaneously began puking with her pointing and laughing at us.

Maybe was 11 or somewhere around that. There was an old church building that was just up the street and it was on a hill, so it's yard was a steep hill that me and some buddies set up ramps to ride our bikes down on and hit the ramp then take a hard turn right (bunch of blackberry bushes setting up a way between the house and church yard), go up the hill again and repeat.

I don't remember if I got too much air or just the brakes quit working on the crappy bike I had, so I went straight off the ramp and jumped off the bike head first into the bushes. Had scratches and thorns all over my body.
